Just found the bit underneath. Shit. I am a bit disappointed. I was optimistic there for a few seconds.

They are only able to continue this charade by pretending these books don't exist. I want people to keep talking about them and her.

Reminds me of a line from “Clockwise” when John Cleese’s character is at his lowest ebb: “It's not the despair. I can live with the despair. It's the hope.”

Expand full comment

I saw Clockwise a few years ago and I remember that line. It didn't stand out just because it was comedy, but because it can be true and any context and so many can relate to it. Despair feels safer than hope.

As soon as I saw the photo, I immediately started looking for a Moley credit!

I get blamed for EVERYTHING around here! It's just not fair...

No wait...

🤔

Wonder why?

Expand full comment

It's a complete mystery...

What was it like? It's been so long!

I think she would pick up those books in real life, but only on the way to a bonfire of the sanities.

Expand full comment

Excellent line. I intend to steal it.

Expand full comment

Thank you! I will now bask in self importance for 7 seconds.

Bask? Only BASK????

BATHE!

That is fabulous!

Expand full comment

I was just thinking, if you'd like to write, "Burned any good books lately?" across the top, "Bonfire of the Sanities" across the bottom and crowdfund space on a giant billboard somewhere embarrassing for her, I would not object.

Awwwwwww, shucks :-)

Expand full comment

Come on, that deserves longer than that! :-)

Expand full comment

Also awwwww shucks :-)

Steal and make sure it’s reprinted widely. Thanks Trev.

Thatcher is mocked for trying to be a woman in a man's world who tries to be a man.I was really disappointed because,I really thought ( as an 18 year old feminist) she would do more to further women's chances.I learned then than many woman are not feminists,Sturgeon is no different really, just expresses her valuation of men ( as a group, not as individuals ) in a different way.

Ooh, you bugger Graham. You teased us.

I just want to say here, my cousin’s daughter had a substitute teacher for ONE DAY, and came home saying she was non binary and wanted to call herself Cheese “because everybody likes cheese”. Someone suggested she call herself Brie, and she got a bit pissed off at that point, but my cousin was pissed off with this teacher. I hope she brings it up with the school.

Expand full comment

Brie/Bree is a girl's name though. At least in the film 'Klute' Jane Fonda played a woman called Brie. She was a prostitute so perhaps not so good. But not NB anyway.

Expand full comment

I know, Bree at least is an actual name. I did meet someone called Cinnamon once. She hated being called Cinnamon though.

Expand full comment

Was she a spice girl?

Expand full comment

Aha! Very good. She said her mum was a bit of a hippy and that was how it happened.

I knew a Fern and a Willow

Expand full comment

Yes Fern to me is a normal name. I remember a kid at a school I was volunteering at who was called Rasta. His parents had obviously converted to the Rastafarian religion and wanted to illustrate this through their son’s eccentric naming.

The havoc they're wreaking!

No! Moley's been at it again, surely?

I'm still wondering which puberty blocker manufacturer has got a lucrative seat on the board lined up for her.

Sturgeon is a disgrace because she fails to look at the facts about gender ideology. No wonder the trans community love her - it’s hard to tell which ‘gender’ she is, despite the chavvy white stilettos she favours. Her nickname at school was ‘Seaweed’ because even the tide wouldn’t take her out!

Expand full comment

Allegedly- She’s making a lot of money from ignoring the reality. If you look at a few of her acceptance speeches when she was re-elected the first thing she references is trans. When she ran on independence you’d think that would be her focus - but no.

Expand full comment

There was no way on Earth Sturgeon would be caught carrying any of those books but it would make for groundbreaking news if she had the intelligence and honesty to admit how wrong she is about everything so far.

Expand full comment

Sturgeon is a self serving politician to her fingertips and desperate to keep the young vote onside.

Shame really as those who trust her are going to be put off politics for life!

You nearly had me there! Two glasses of red wine on a Saturday night makes the brain a little fuzzy. No, but she didn’t get the result she wanted from the poll, thankfully. Onwards and upwards.

It's very good - are there little Moley fingerprints all over the picture? If not he's got some competition!

I am not sure if moles have fingerprints... I shall endeavour to find out and get back to you...

Omg you had me going 😆

Expand full comment

I wish you wouldn't do that Graham, and I presume, Moley.

It is always devastating when you find out it is not true.

So disappointing!

Expand full comment

Well can we just post them to her then so she is actually forced to hold these books?

Expand full comment

I'm not sure posting them would work: I suspect her minders would whisk them away before she even set eyes on them!
