Cancel culture is, funnily enough, a cancer, but I can't help enjoying the demise of the loathsome misogynist Janey Godley, who took great pleasure in reciting the sacred psalms of the gender movement while calling the women who questioned it bigots and transphobes.
Also warms my heart to read in that piece that my old friend David Baddiel offered her support! What a gent! Sadly no such support came my way despite being on the Twitters since the 2000s and never having a single tweet with 'mong' or 'tranny' in it (unlike Janey).
Isn’t it funny, after all these years, after Savile, after Rotherham, after #MeToo, misogyny is still the great unmentionable among our liberal-leaning celebrity elite. Janey Godley, whose day wasn’t complete until she had contrived another way to throw women under the bus, brings out the chivalry in David. But I don’t remember him saying much when I was thrown off Twitter for saying “men aren’t women” or when JK Rowling received a pipe bomb threat from a trans activist.
I couldn’t care less about Godley, but I just signed the Roy Chubby Brown petition and I suggest you do too. His comedy is not for me so I have not heard much of it. Perhaps he says terrible things, I don’t know. But they are in service to actual jokes delivered to an audience of consensual adults. And even more than that, to paraphrase Mohamad Ali, Roy Chubby Brown never called me no bigot.
Some years ago I was writing an article about female comedians and Janey Godley was one of women with whom I got in touch for an interview. She replied (I'm paraphrasing) "I'm not a feminist and don't want to be in your article" or words to that effect. (Note that the article was about FEMALE comics, I never used the feminist.) So I haven't been remotely surprised by her recent adherence to the gender cult and her determination to heave other women under a train.
Just to add - although I do not consider what I have seen of her tweets to be any of the isms or phobias (because they are, indeed, just jokes) she wasn't joking with her misogyny.
And I have never yet seen a misogynist who was not also a racist, and often also a homophobe. Misogyny is the most core, basic bigotry. To hate, fear or dehumanise half the human race can only mean that you have other bigotry within you. In my observation, nobody is safe around a misogynist, as it is a precursor to all the other prejudices.
