I took a year off university for medical reasons last year.First day back today.
My dissertation is looking at the role of female autism and also social contagion in the massive increase of girls wanting to be trans, safeguarding, ethics etc.I got allocated a dissertation supervisor because 'that's his subject' who is new and I've not spoken to yet. One of their specialist subjects is gender queer theory and relationship counselling non binary people and has trained at the Tavistock. Triplicate pronouns, three christian names and double barrelled surname.God help me. I shall be referring to what Dr. Bell says here , including the idea of institutional capture in HE. Not expecting feedback to be much fun . Shall be off Twitter for a while after tonight.Wish me luck!
Your subjects are SO important and in desperate need of genuinely inquisitive, open-minded study, i.e. not by believers in queery theory (which is profoundly messing with autistic girls' self-perceptions, for starters). It sounds like you may have been assigned to someone who will view even your questions as WrongThink.
Surely a candidate must be able to request a change of supervisor, if they sense that the person assigned may seek to block or otherwise inhibit/skew their research? (I realise you've not even spoken yet!)
I trust you know about James Caspian's attempted research on detransitioners, the cowardly denial of it by his university (Bath Spa) and his subsequent legal action in defense of freedom of research (ongoing?).
Research that is beyond the ideological capture of gender theorists and activists is SO needed. The Keira Bell case and Abigail Shrier's book – and earlier Lisa Littman's courageous work – have finally blown things open to help press for that. But meanwhile autistic girls and others are still being lured onto this insanely damaging conveyer belt. Wishing you every success!
Hi TJ37.Thanks for the encouragement, really appreciate it..I wholeheartedly agree.I'm aware of James Caspians situation at Bath and hoping to avoid becoming another Lynsey Shepherd/James Caspian type university situation . I've arranged via email to speak to them for the first time on Monday so I shall have more of an dea then.. I've got some mates who are seasoned academics and they all say the same type of thing,ie: "Can you ask to switch or just hold your nose enough to try and get through it get your degree and get out? " Extra layer of stressful navigation I could do without. I chose my dissertation topic a year ago before they were hired.I look forward to discussing the mention that the ideological institutional capture Dr.Bell referred to includes HE institutions.Awks!
In your position, I'd find out if you can request someone and whether they have to be within the same institution or not, and look into persons you would actively benefit from being supervised by, inside or external? People who would be at very least supportive of your areas of research, or could maybe help guide you? I'm not in HE, but am under the impression that different instituations may have different guidelines on this. Best of luck.
Astonishing how unusual it feels to hear a reality based summary of the harms of transing children. Amazingly, YouTube/Channel 4 are allowing reality based comments. For now.
I was surprised to see this on C4 news. I watched it loyally every night for many years, but got so fed up last year with them constantly pushing a progressive agenda that I stopped. Maybe they're coming to their senses a bit.
Yes, a huge surprise to see airtime given to this on C4. (Another formerly loyal defector here.) Except that they tried to get the Tavistock on as well, but were presented with a printed statement instead. Still, that they allowed so much time for David Bell to speak was a complete change from their usual suppression of any wrongthink around 'transition'.
Yes he did that after chairing an excellent day called Do Not Adjust your set on sex gender and public policy
It was a brilliant day
Two letters of thanks in Irish Sunday Independent today, for review of Irreversible Damage
Keira Bell deserves a Nobel Peace Prize after what she's been through and continues to go through.
Excellent interview

I will check those options out for sure in case needed. Thanks.x

Well, to be fair it's regressive, though they try to call themselves progressive :) I'm amazed the comments have been allowed to stay up.
