Dear Amazon,
A social media campaign is currently underway to attack the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual Charity LGB Alliance. LGB Alliance is a charity registered with the Charity Commission of England and Wales (number 1194148). It is being incorrectly described to you as a “hate group” by a targeted campaign. That allegation is not true and was comprehensively rejected by the independent UK Charity Commission – the full judgment is available here should you need it.
You are likely to receive letters saying this registered charity is “generally considered a hate group in the LGBT Community”. This also is not true. Many, many homosexuals such as I support it as do many bi and trans people. The full details of the charity are set out on their web page. You will see that the trustees include Lord Young of Norwood Green, Professor Kathleen Stock OBE, Professor Robert Wintemute and a previous VP for American Express Corporate Services. The calibre of the trustees speaks for itself and you may think strongly mitigates against the suggestion it is some sort of “hate group”.
Some factions in LGBT politics have never been able to accept the Charity Commission decision and now seek to exploit corporate complaint avenues as a way to financially and reputationally attack this charity. The objective is to draw Amazon into this debate via a wholly misleading description of the charity.
LGBA is the only charity in the UK that defines homosexuality in accordance with s.12 of the Equality Act 2010 (same sex rather than same gender attraction) and it speaks on this issue exercising it’s article 9 and 10 ECHR rights to freedom of speech/s.9 Equality Act protected beliefs. Many simply wish to starve this charity of cash, presumably as a means to silencing this vital voice in gay politics.
For this reason might I ask that you examine very cautiously any defamatory suggestions regarding this charity because such are not supported by the independent judgment of the charity commission and are appear to be simply an attempt to exert unwarranted commercial pressure on a charity that looks after Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual people.
Yours Faithfully,
Dennis Kavanagh
A reasonable, excellent, well-worded letter. Will Amazon take heed of this evidenced, detailed communication, or will it bend to the loud, unpleasant rhetoric of activists?
I admit, I am not confident it will be the former.
Well written. Yeah ,I am a straight woman ,married for 51 years to the same man ,and I donated to the LGB ALLIANCE 2 days ago.!! They should have the support of EVERY right thinking person . The real hate group is the LGBT ,as demonstrated by their own actions even as they deny it !! The lies they tell and the misinformation they spread is preposterous and their misogyny is laid bare for all to see with every " decree " they bring forth and every demand they make
