Arthur asked: what is a woman? https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m000vjpg (at 33'41")

Expand full comment

Thanks for the time-stamp. That was horrific - the Stepford Wives were out in force. So completely and utterly brainwashed.

"The Scottish Government has been facing a legal challenge over its legal definition of 'woman' in the Gender Representation on Public Boards Act. I'd like the panellists to actually answer the specific question, 'What is a woman?'"

Most of the replies were, in essence, no better than random furries on Twitter. The only thing that gives me comfort is that I am seeing more and more people, male and female, on Twitter and Facebook saying straight-out, "I used to believe in all this bullshit. I was a prize TRA. Then the scales fell from my eyes."

ANY QUESTIONS - BBC RADIO 4

"Chris Mason presents political debate and discussion from BBC Pacific Quay in Glasgow with:

- Scottish Labour deputy leader Jackie Baillie

- Scottish Conservatives Finance Spokesperson Murdo Fraser

- Liberal Democrat Treasury Spokesperson at Westminster Christine Jardine MP

- Scottish Minister for Trade, Innovation and Public Finance Ivan McKee

- co-leader of the Scottish Greens Lorna Slater"

Chris Mason did his damnedest to get them to actually reply, clearly understood all the issues and ensured clarity by consistently contrasting "women" with "trans people".

("Any Answers" will be interesting on Saturday.)

Jackie Baillie, Labour:

- wants to "de-medicalise the process" of getting a GRC, ie. wants self-ID.

- Does not understand the process of getting a GRC. She recommends everyone should "listen to trans people". Clearly the ones she has been listening to have been misinforming her as she believes it is "an over-medicalised process that actually damages people". (Evidence, Jackie?? "Damages" FFS!)

Lorna Slater, Greens:

- the question is an anti-trans dog whistle! TWAW, TMAM etc.

- "do we want to put male cleaners of women's toilets out of work?"

Yes, actually, I do! Those cleaners always used to be women, women who have been put put of work by male cleaners. Bring back women cleaning women's toilets. She is so deeply anti-women and pro-men that she is rooting for women not to be employed in occupations that support women's safety, privacy and personal support.

- women's concerns about toilets "I find hilarious because we all have same-gender toilets at home" - (give me strength! This woman is a feckin' idiot!)

- lies: about prisons being single-sex due to an exception in the EA2010

- lies: that reform of GRA would have no impact on women in prison ("it is irrelevant")

- aggressively anti-woman throughout her reply and her interruptions of other panellists.

Ivan McKee, SNP:

- started off vague but when pushed was nuanced and actually dared to mention women's concerns, safe spaces, prisons, sport and supports open debate - but still wants to "reform the act", ie. GRA. (Naive or fence-sitting par excellence?)

Christine Jardine, Lib Dems:

- "For me there is no conflict between my rights as a woman and the rights of a transwoman" (idiotic and, as I am sure she will be informed "transphobic")

- People are abusive "on both sides" (ugh! Show me women's rights campaigners threatening to rape and murder trans people - no, you can't.)

- Trans rights are just the same as gay rights (delusional or deliberate propaganda?)

- The "real people involved in this" are: trans people (women: not real people. How have women like this become so detached from their own sense of self?)

- trans people are driven to suicide just because they are trans (but it's not a mental health problem OBVS)

- compares if one of her kids was gay vs straight with trans vs straight (so close but still a million miles from seeing it! That gay-expelliarmus of trans - right over her head as she is explaining it)

Chris Mason: What about the rights of women?

(All the women now strive to outdo each other in selling-out women and trivialising their concerns and I cannot tell one from the other. That's Labour, Lib Dems and Greens - anyone surprised?)

Christine Jardine, Lib Dems: - very nearly get's that final word on this question, pointing out that it is only the three women on the panel who are hunky-dory about dismissing and vilifying other women who do have concerns (not that she puts it like that, no, they are three are the "nice women" who are looking out for the interests of poor, suffering, delicate trans women - unlike all those imaginary other women conjured up by the two men on the panel.)

Murdo Fraser, Tory:

- bloke and the only one on the panel unequivocally standing up for women, heckled by the bloody women from the Greens, Lib Dems and Labour all scrabbling to kick women in the face.

(OK, he did go along with the pretence that obtaining a GRA is unnecessarily complex etc. Why the hell does anyone concede this point - it's just not true!)

- speaks truth: "The only way you can reform the GRA is to move to Self-ID - and that's the problem."

- "need to listen to views on both sides and find a way through this"

- must not close-down and cancel people like JK Rowling and Germaine Greer, "they have campaigned for women's rights for many years and they need to be listened to too"

- manages to get in final word, "many other women are" (concerned)

I have never voted anything but Labour in my life and I am still paying membership subs and extra on top, as I have done for decades.

It is hard to let go of hope but come election day, if I had to choose between these five, the only one worthy of my vote, speaking up for women's rights, defending JK Rowling and Germaine Greer is, incredibly, the Tory bloke.

Those three women, Labour, Green and Lib Dems, should be so ashamed of themselves.

They stand on the shoulders of the feminist activists opened up positions of power and influence to women. Instead of using their positions to advocate for women they grind us into the dust. They even resort to lies to undermine our interests.

We should reserve the term "trans women" for these women. They are women under the spell of trans ideology and they are broken.

Good summary. Lorna Slater asserting "human rights are human rights" made me laugh out loud.

Christine Jardine needs help joining up her thoughts re: "Isn’t it interesting that on this panel the three women … say that we do not feel threatened by trans rights, & it’s the two men." Obviously this is nothing to do with the fact that the three PPPs the women represent silence & remove any pesky women (& men) asking questions about their extremist gender ideology.

I agree. Germaine Greer is not all that bad, but there is one thing worth mentioning. When she first started campaigning for women's rights her ideas were considered outrageously extreme, but since quite a lot of her ideas became mainstream fewer people seem to listen to her. People should listen to her again, as she is not now considered all that radical. she has a lot of down to earth things to say and you're right, all this modern identity politics about micro-aggression and mansplaining and all that stupidity is just beyond reason and very offensive

imo mansplaining is a problem e.g. Owen Jones correcting women about feminism.

When a man corrects a woman about feminism (or other women's issues) I think "mansplaining" is the most appropriate term. Open to offers if you have a better one :-)

I agree Owen appears to be unintentionally (unconsciously) misogynistic. For e.g. he regularly demonstrates he thinks he knows what's best for women.

Owen Jones is nothing but radical for the trendy sake of being radical. He isnt really a politician he is just some hipster out to score points on the political scene. His undoing will be when the march of time simply talks about him in a footnote on his own wikipedia page

How about this? Sorry about long preamble before my two suggested questions -

Following the statement this week by the Equalities and Human Rights Commission, in the landmark Maya Forstater case ...

** “We think that a 'gender critical' belief that 'trans women are men and trans men are women' is a philosophical belief which is protected under the Equality Act religion or belief protections.

"We are concerned that a contrary ruling by the Employment Appeal Tribunal could leave people unprotected from discrimination and harassment and could result in a restriction of people's freedom of speech on debates concerning transgender rights, Gender Recognition Act reform and definitions of 'woman' and 'man'.

"There is a difference between holding a belief and how that belief is manifested. This does not mean that actions such as misgendering trans people, or comments made based on such beliefs, are free from consequences or that views should be left unchallenged.

"In this appeal we are not taking a position on whether the decision to not renew Maya Forstater's contract was lawful or unlawful – rather we are intervening in the case to submit that her beliefs are protected by the Equality Act and by Human Rights law."

... following this statement, and with consideration for the content of the linked article - https://lesbianandgaynews.com/2021/04/lesbian-labour-lesbians-within-the-labour-movement-are-fighting-back-against-attacks/?fbclid=IwAR26m1tjM_3y1Ji4kNguulW4RUizRB3rS8JCI0zsVw09k71h3hcmW64cghg -

from Lesbian Labour, perhaps these two questions could be put to all candidates?

Should lesbians be expected to have sex with male-bodied men who identify as women?

How do you define ‘woman’?

also my mind is about exploded by pseudo feminist tolerance of sexual violation, mental instability and blindness toward child grooming by women who are a-ok with horrible boundary violations by trans dudes while at the same time 'time's up' and 'me too'-ing everything in sight...straight males must be incredulous at the thought that wearing a dress gives you a free pass to all things sexual harassment without consequence

Expand full comment

wow that's brilliant. That's where the battle lines are drawn in the US. Imagine if all folks could be protected under the religious belief statues, by having the right to personal philosophical beliefs. Those gender-obsessed believe one thing, we believe another. Why do their beliefs trump ours? I'm sending this to my senator.
