The problem with the census is not question 27, but the guidance which accompanies the sex question (Q3) and tells people to answer in line with their official documents, many of which can be changed simply by request…that is, they record self-identified, not biological sex.

Not exactly on topic, but this article from the latest issue of The Economist is pretty good, as it focuses on the potential adverse effects of puberty blockers - osteoporosis, potential cognitive damage, err, preventing puberty etc - and references the Keira Bell court case. It also raises a proverbial eyebrow over the proliferation of gender dysphoria clinics in the US and questions whether puberty blockers actually do any good in terms of treating gender dysphoria. The Economist is usually behind a paywall but you should be able to read a few articles a month without registering:
