It is my pleasure to present to you a few of the good news stories from the gender beat this week. Enjoy!
They See Her Rowling
HBO Max is to make a TV adaptation of the Harry Potter books with JK Rowling as executive producer.
Warner Bros Discovery, the entertainment behemoth which first put Harry Potter on the big screen, has announced that it is developing a new television show with JK Rowling taking a key role as its executive producer. Each season will be based on one of the seven books in the franchise and it is thought the show will run for a decade.
JK Rowling commented, “Max’s commitment to preserving the integrity of my books is important to me, and I’m looking forward to being part of this new adaptation which will allow for a degree of depth and detail only afforded by a long form television series”.
And speaking of Queen JK, Auntie Beeb has had a rap on the knuckles for allowing a radio guest to libel her without challenge.
During a feature on Radio 4’s PM in February, presenter Evan Davis allowed trans-identified male, Stacey Henley, to claim that JK Rowling is transphobic and describe her pro-women stance as having ‘nasty views’.
The BBC’s Executive Complaints Unit has deemed that the radio programme “Did not meet the BBC’s editorial standards of impartiality”.
Fighting Back
In Norway, a woman fired for her ‘gender critical’ views is taking legal action against her former employer.
Rianne Vogels was fired from her job at Papillon after she criticised gender identity ideology on social media resulting in an anonymous complaint being emailed to her superiors. She is now suing her former employer for unfair dismissal.
We wish Rianne and her legal team the very best of luck.
We Told You So
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) is being forced to acknowledge concerns over its collection of data on the UK’s transgender population.
Academics have queried the findings of the last national census after it became obvious that high proportions of people living in areas where English isn’t spoken well or at all seem to ‘identify’ as transgender.
Michael Biggs, a professor of sociology at the University of Oxford, believes the ‘gender question’ may have confused those whose first language is not English. He said, “I think the ONS has got to release more detail that will allow us to probe further. They owe it to us, having screwed up.”
See You In Court
Scottish law experts have expressed their opinion regarding the SNP’s legal challenge of the UK government’s gender reform bill veto.
Lord Sumption, a former Supreme Court justice, has described the case as ‘weak’ and ‘very difficult’. Lord Hope, a former deputy president of the Supreme Court, described the Scottish government’s position as ‘hopeless and a waste of public money’.
The Bleedin’ Obvious
It’s a strange state of affairs when the UK Prime Minister stating publicly that women do not have male genitalia is considered good news. But here we are.
This week Rishi Sunak was interviewed on the Conservative Home website. Asked whether he believed that 100 per cent of women do not have a penis, he replied, “Yes, of course”. He also vowed to protect women’s single sex spaces. “When it comes to these issues of protecting women’s rights and women’s spaces, the issue of biological sex is fundamentally important.”
Do you hear that, Sir Keir?
Trouble At T’Mill?
On the subject of Keir Starmer, what’s going on at Labour HQ? GB News journalist, Tom Harwood, says he’s seen a leaked copy of the Labour Party Policy Handbook which suggests the party has ditched its self-id plans.
Instead, this leaked document says that Labour will “Build a consensus on modernising the Gender Recognition Act while upholding the Equality Act, including the single sex exemptions it provides”.
Harwood has reported that “A secret row is exploding within Labour over trans rights”.
Date For Your Diary
The University of Bristol’s feminist student society, Women Talk Back!, has organised a brilliant event which is being held on 28th April.
Four wonderful speakers will examine women’s rights and the law and there will be an audience Q&A session, too. You can buy tickets here.
Posie Takes Belfast
Despite the presence of the usual Milky Bar Militia, the Let Women Speak event in Belfast on Sunday was an absolute triumph.
There were hundreds in attendance.
And a range of incredible women spoke.
To the trans activists protesting the event, @ShayWoulahan sent a message, “You can try to silence us and we will just get louder!”
This extremely brave and wonderful woman gave such an emotional speech, speaking of her experiences of having a female body, that she moved many to tears.
This brilliant young woman - who is still at school! - performed a wonderfully powerful and impassioned poem. “Just call me woman - it is who I am!”
This amazing 11-year-old girl asked, “I can understand a man is a man and a woman is a woman....why can’t they?”
Plenty of male allies were in attendance and, of course, this handsome fella was there!
A grand time was had by all and Posie left the crowd with the message, “I never lose”.
Contesting a delusion looks like wading through self-setting cement, but still you persevere! Respect. Charles Mackay wrote in 'Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds' (1841) 'Men, it is said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses more slowly, and one by one.'
Very satisfying to read this, jk Rowling and the new HP series must be driving the genderborg insane, I love it. Kjk took belfast by storm and the speakers were magnificent, the girl with the poem was stirring stuff, shay her usual brilliant self, the lady who spoke about the cancers she has had and the hardships she has suffered reduced me to tears, the lady from the South, the lady who took her hat off, the lady speaking on behalf of one who couldn't, it was a triumph from the beginning to the end and every minute of it was brilliant. Like most of the places kjk goes, women have been silenced, but they come out and speak when given the opportunity and their bravery is magnificent.
The cats I was a puddle of love ❤️
