Contesting a delusion looks like wading through self-setting cement, but still you persevere! Respect. Charles Mackay wrote in 'Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds' (1841) 'Men, it is said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses more slowly, and one by one.'

Very satisfying to read this, jk Rowling and the new HP series must be driving the genderborg insane, I love it. Kjk took belfast by storm and the speakers were magnificent, the girl with the poem was stirring stuff, shay her usual brilliant self, the lady who spoke about the cancers she has had and the hardships she has suffered reduced me to tears, the lady from the South, the lady who took her hat off, the lady speaking on behalf of one who couldn't, it was a triumph from the beginning to the end and every minute of it was brilliant. Like most of the places kjk goes, women have been silenced, but they come out and speak when given the opportunity and their bravery is magnificent.

The cats I was a puddle of love ❤️

It’s a strange state of affairs when the UK Prime Minister stating publicly that women do not have male genitalia is considered good news. But here we are.

goodness this has made me laugh. Good to have giggles where possible!

Is anyone else enjoying learning about the snp’s progressive approach to accounting?

Yes indeed! How do you make £600,000 disappear? Give it to the SNP!

Following a brief discussion with my adult granddaughter, re:the recent (much publicised) NIKE advertising campaign , - my granddaughter then proceeded to show me the current online NIKE merchandise catalogue photographs. The current photos of NIKE clothing, have received such a TRANSformation by choosing models who present such a particular 'gender neutral appeal', that it is actually quite impossible to detect, which items of clothing are being targeted at males and which articles targeted at females.

In theory this may sound beautifully inclusive, but in reality it is rather damned confusing, which is why the boyfriend of said granddaughter was unable to purchase anything at all not wanting to accidently purchase a female item of clothing.

It sounds like marketing nonsense. I don't get the issue. Unless it's a jockstrap or bra, and waist, ride and hip measurements count does it really matter? Was it swimming briefs or a women's full body suit? Limb size or length can matter and you can usually check those measurements too. Does he only wear certain colour clothing too? What would have happened, would anyone have pointed and shouted at him in the street for wearing a tracksuit, tee or hoodie 'for a girl'? Who cares? If it fits what does it matter?

Expand full comment

Given that (up to the proverbial 5 minutes ago), - it was generally understood that female and male bodies differ, in terms of chest span, upper arm width, length of limbs etc., male and female clothing has catered to these differentials, eg if I was to buy a 'male' shirt, then the neck would far too big, the sleeves would be far too long and the shoulders far too wide and it's far too complicated to try and check individual measurements on items for verification.

I imagine many young men would be mortified to be seen wearing a "female" item of clothing. The use of the phrase 'don't be a big girl's blouse', I recall being used, not that long ago by one of our recent Prime Ministers

BTW it was a big thing in tech a few years ago that the free tees that came with events and conferences were all ginormous and looked like unshapely sacks on the women. The few women in tech, who still obviously weren't involved with decision-making and were an afterthought. So savvy places got 'female fit' tops and clothing and gave us a choice so we weren't squeezing our tits into uncomfortable things that made us look like porn stars side-hustling. Maybe that young man could take a risk and find a company that does accommodate him. There are plenty out there. People who have different body shapes have always had to do this.

Expand full comment

Is he aware how hard it is for female footballers to find boots to fit? All clothing has been based on the male form, and often still is, so excuse my incomprehension that this is such a struggle for him. I'm not sure what horrendous social exclusion would occur if someone discovered he got a tee shirt or pair of socks from pages 20 to 26 versus 27 to 36 of a catalogue. Much sports clothing can as easily be worn by women as men.

Expand full comment

Yes, I know female and male bodies differ. But sports clothes are different and I think this is a bit of a non-issue in this instance. It depends what he would be buying - sloppy, loose or elasticated training clothes like tracksuits are much of a muchness, I'm not talking men's dress shirts, flightsuits or ballgowns. I'm not talking women's cycling shorts with specific padding round the crotch or bottom. You can also put your measurements into catalogue and now online clothing for this reason - chest span, upper arm width, neck, length of limbs etc. I really don't see what the issue is - he doesn't have to buy from such a daft company as Nike. I have often bought a small or large 'male' size or clothing depending on measurements, or bought specifically smart fitted female shirts, with darts and to fit my measurements and breasts, waist and hips. Or rifled through second hand shops to find clothes to fit. Or altered 'male' clothing.

If you want clothing to fit it really doesn't seem far too complicated. I am woman over 6ft and have had to buy specialist sports clothing my whole life - since I was a child. I wore a lot of second hand clothing too as we couldn't afford new. And still do. I have also worked in engineering where well-fitting PPE is safety critical.

Why should any young man be 'mortified'? Again, what makes it 'female' unless it is a bra or to be worn fitted to accommodate breasts, hips, waist and shoulders. Length of body, ride and lower body length or ratio too. Isn't this the heart of the issue and all this gender crap? If any man or woman measures himself or herself by what PM's say, maybe that's the issue. They often say hugely sexist and misogynist things. Just like 'calm down dear'. Not great role models. I'm guessing some young men think male ballet dancers are sappy girly wets too? Not 'manly' enough? Say that to their face - they are very strong and athletic - as female ballet dancers are.

Thanks for a great round up of good news JL. It’ll be particularly satisfying seeing the trans terrorists having fits over the new HP series. Let’s hope it deposes Radcliffe and pals from their pedestals.

Ha ha! "PM Acknowledges Reality Shocka!!" Strange days indeed, JL.

My follow-up question to Sunak would have been: "If you understand that women don't have male genitals, any chance of getting taxpayer-funded institutions to stop pretending that they can?" The Tories are very good at saying the right thing while doing bugger-all about it.

Anyway, mustn't grumble and good news is good news. After the last 7-odd years of cult madness, a Prime Minister referencing biology feels very welcome.

I work in one of those tax payer funded institutions and I can tell you that Stonewall and the men at the top of the tree, who are aware of the lack of diversity at their level, so virtue signal inclusiveness hoping to divert from the fact that they are all pale, male and stale at those heady heights. It's the heads of those establishments that have most pull and ability to change policy, not Ministers or the PM - as you cna see with the police!

If anything good came out of Auckland, it's seeing this. This greater awareness of the issue, and willingness to turn up to talk about it, and turn up to hear other women talk about it. Not to mention seeing the police there. Like many NZers, I was horrified at what happened at the Let Women Speak rally in Auckland, and am so very, very glad that Kellie-Jay made it home safely in the end. Although, we may draw a line under what happened in Auckland, we won't forget - not least because nothing like that has ever happened in NZ before - and there's certainly many of us who won't forgive, either. That doesn't mean retaliation, but it does mean utter determination.
