Women Won’t Wheesht Down Under
The Australian Liberal Party has endorsed women’s sex-based rights at both state and national level.
Finland’s U-Turn On Puberty Blockers
Last year the Finnish Health Authority issued guidelines which back psychotherapy, rather than puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones, as the first-line of treatment for children with dysphoria. The Society for Evidence-Based Gender Medicine has just published a review of this important about-turn in policy.
”The Finnish gender identity services program is a worldwide leader in paediatric gender medicine. The 2020 Finnish guidelines represent a strong signal that the pioneers of paediatric medical transition are concerned about unintended harm to the growing number of gender dysphoric adolescents presenting for care.”
Auntie On The Naughty Step
The BBC has upheld a complaint about an article on the treatment of dysphoric kids.
In December 2020 the BBC published an online article about the High Court ruling over prescribing puberty blockers to minors in the Keira Bell case. It was written by the then LGBT correspondent (and friend of Stonewall), Ben Hunte. The article contained a number of glaring untruths about the use of puberty blockers and claimed that the High Court’s decision could cause dysphoric children to commit suicide.
After seven months and two attempts to deny the charge, the BBC has (finally!) upheld the complaint. It has amended the article, excising quotes from Helen Webberley and Adrian Harrop, and admitted that the piece was one-sided and risked endangering vulnerable people.
The Bleedin’ Obvious
The IOC has admitted that its guidelines on the inclusion of trans-identified athletes are not fit for purpose.
The IOC’s medical and science director, Dr Richard Budgett, has acknowledged the current regulations, devised in 2015, ‘were no longer backed by science’. A new framework is to be put in place within the next two months.
That Money Was Just Resting In My Account
TENI, Ireland’s powerful trans lobby group, has lost substantial funding thanks to its financial irregularities.
TENI (Transgender Equality Network Ireland) failed to file its accounts for 2019. As a result, the Health Service Executive, which has gifted TENI €1.3 million since 2014, has suspended its funding. Similarly, philanthropic organisation, Rethink Ireland, has rethought its €40,000 worth of grant money this year.
