That schoolgirl's account of what's happening in her school is profoundly depressing. The "adults in the room" are no longer being adults; they're allowing the kids to dictate the narrative.

I don't blame people for doing what they have to do in order to avoid getting sacked, but I do blame the Government (both Westminster and Holyrood) for letting this utter garbage get a grip on so many public institutions. Also they've been given a free ride by a useless, almost-entirely compliant media.

I like your comment for its content AND for its construction (I practically swoon over a well-placed hyphen). 😊

Shocking about the schoolgirl’s account (I have teens same age and I can relate to everything she describes re the trans quicksand in school from classmates & teacher virtue signalling (many are just silent no doubt, trying to survive it all)). The Canadian school boy situation is appalling! Still all the evidence through prison service capture, courts etc that trans are still somehow ‘the best of us’ when infact the evidence has been out for ages that the opposite is true. Yes definitely will write to BBC about the apology due to Graham .. so far all articles have been silent acknowledging the truth tellers. An article with Kemi Badenock photo & quote in the times today that people must stand up for the truth. Much more needs to be said repeatedly about the people who have been doing this for years, against the endless bullying. And it’s not over yet.

What if ALL the kids declared themselves 'trans' or 'non binary'? Then it wouldn't be special any more; eventually it would be normal and boring, so the kid who came out as 'Cis' would be all stunning and brave and so cool!

Hehe. I think it’s possible woke accross the board may desist this way. I do hope young people recognise how it’s being forced on them and they start to rebel! 🤞

Theatre of the Absurd is no longer relevant, nor does it work, when we live in the truly Absurd “reality” where a man can become a woman.

Edijester read that schoolgirl's letter on his programme and it was heartbreaking and painted such a bleak picture of school life in Britain today. What on earth does the Education Department think it's doing here? Clearly it's the destruction of childhood and those poor kids will never get that back. Shame on all those " adults " who support this horror. Don't know how they sleep at night. Well done to that girl and well done ,too ,to the brave young man in Canada who stands by his principles on this issue. He's on the right side and the proof of it is emerging more and more every day ,as " this NEVER happens" is happening EVERYWHERE now and can't be hidden or ignored for much longer. Even the fact that discussing the rights and safety of women and girls ,and promoting the safeguarding of all children is being classed as "Transphobic " is surely a Red Flag to all sane people ! Do they not yet realise that they are supporting the most dangerous predators and paedophiles in the world. Well done ,JL ,for compiling this. It can't be easy. Thank you ❤️👍

So, if your brief tells the court you have a history of depressive illness and blah blah other excuses for your deviant and destructive behaviour the judge believes this trumps the right of innocent children to be protected from such abusers. Those children, and others that the abuser has now been given permission to abuse, will go on to have depressive illness. Well done Judge. More destroyed lives on your watch. You utter idiot.

Here's a link to the Ute Heggen/Jon Uhler inaugural interview, soon to become a series. The Justice Indoctrination Team can practice on our many, many violations, as we speak in clear terms like "cross-sex ideation, biological males, and born" not prissy phrases like 'assigned at birth." As if the body, newly born, requires homework.

Chortle: If you want your comment to be legible, you do not choose an italic font.

Whatever happened to typography? Oh, I know! Apple MACs happened to typography.

Expand full comment

A woman after my own heart! I'm a graphic designer who loves and specializes in typography. But I'm afraid it's not only Macs that are to blame. Everybody and her sister think they're designers, no matter what kind of computer they use. But Chortle's arrogance and misinformation (a.k.a. lying) were harder for me to take than the italics.

Expand full comment

I couldn't even read it!

I was a typographer and I blame MACs because they were the ones who invaded graphic design studios and typeshops and made everyone think they could design, as you say. All the beautiful things I learned working in NYC and most of that knowledge seems lost (like an elegant ragged right).

Expand full comment

Ah! Only an aficionado of typography would speak of the possible elegance of ragged right. My hat's off to you, Susan. How exciting to work in NYC with the publishing and the advertising and all! Of course it's not what it used to be and a lot of the knowledge IS lost. I retired recently so was in the business long enough to have worked with markers and X-acto knives and sending our copy out to good people like you -- before the advent of computers (in Mpls-St. Paul). I wish I could chat with you all day, but I suppose this isn't the place for it. Have a good day!

Know the hierarchy of typography? Advertising on top, newspapers in the middle, and books at the bottom of the heap. We had clients who spent tens of thousands of dollars on dummy copy! it was the 1980s after all! Designers would send jobs back to have something moved one-half of a point and a man who worked for Revlon charged all his ACT-UP work to his employer, which I thought quite amusing.

I've never noticed Graham getting all bent out of shape because people go off-topic, one of the things I appreciate about him.

Expand full comment

I did NOT know about that hierarchy! Are those like the preferences for what you and your colleagues would want to work on or general industry preferences? Wow, you must have had some rich clients! Or in the case of moving something a half-point, some agreements on revisions that were very favorable to the clients... Makes me feel very nostalgic.

Yeah, lots to appreciate about Graham! Glad he's on the side of women and children and gay people.

Expand full comment

The hierarchy had to do with pay scale. Typeshops were no longer unionized when I went to work in NYC but we still had all the benefits at an advertising shop such as being able to read the newspaper if there were no jobs on hand. By 1990, type cost at least $200 an hour -- and the salesmen bosses at my last shop were shocked to find out that typesetters made $25+ per hour -- so you can see how much money was "saved" by forcing designers to do their own type (and I heard they actually made designers punch in and out if they were working / finished with a job!).

I don't drool over Graham as some commenters do (don't think it's ever healthy to drool over men!), but as a McCarthy era child I know all about blacklisting and I hate it. Every new British comedy that's been shown on TV in Maine is not funny -- the station isn't even bothering to show them anymore -- and meanwhile a VERY FUNNY man cannot get work.

Thanks for the Newsnight editor name and address … I have just posted a letter also.. a clear apology from the BBC is required, that clip is pretty unbearable to watch, don’t know how Graham coped so well through it with all the detail etc despite how he was treated. Newsnight team look AWFUl. How biased, how weak. How very wrong. An apology doesn’t cover it but it’s a start!

I am over the moon about the books and articles from great journalists like Hadley Freeman and Hannah Barnes and the Revolution - I hope it will be a revolution - in the treatment of gender confused girls in England and Wales and, soon I hope, in Scotland.

At the end of the queue for a revised view of "gender bending" are the families of AGPs: the children of transitioners and Transwidows like me, the abandoned wives of AGPs/mothers of the children. Yes, the AGPs themselves are not the most appealing "victims" of their own delusion, but they are deluded. I want a complete and impartial assessment by "non-captured" psychiatrists about whether it is better to indulge their delusion or try to break the spell of the delusion. I think you know my views on this. I will continue to speak out about the extraordinary "unilateral" medicalization of an Adult mental health disorder with brutal physical interventions. And in the experience of my now dead Trans ex-H these interventions don't work: (1) no one believed him - he lived alone "as a woman" for the last 16 years of his life and (2) his male metabolism continued in the background: he had a recurrence of his prostate enlargement despite all the years of taking estrogen. He lost his resolve to wear women's clothes and probably committed suicide by throwing himself out of a window which he had carefully designed (he was an architect) to be extremely dangerous. This is a terrible isolation and catastrophic ending for an intelligent and highly educated man who had so much to live for.
