A few cheering news stories from last week.
Love For Lisa
Last week we celebrated the Police and Crime Commissioner for Surrey, Lisa Townsend, who has voiced her opinion that Surrey police should sever ties with Stonewall and has defended women’s sex-based rights and services.
This week she has enjoyed the public support of colleagues who echo her views.
Mark Jones, PCC for Lincolnshire:
Leicestershire and Rutland PCC:
Donna Jones, PPC for Hampshire & Isle of Wight:
A number of women’s support groups have also spoken out in support Lisa Townsend’s comments.
Angela Richardson, MP for Guildford, also supported Lisa’s position:
No Callow Youth
Actor and veteran gay rights campaigner, Simon Callow, has spoken out against Stonewall and trans extremism.
He said that Stonewall’s ‘extraordinarily unproductive militancy’ risked infringing upon women’s hard won rights and spaces and could put pressure on young gay people to transition. He also commented on attempts to silence those who challenge Stonewall’s rhetoric. “This is just tyranny and that’s what we’ve fought against all our lives, people saying, ‘this cannot be discussed’. Yes, it can be discussed. Everything can be discussed.”
Another Domino Falls
Broadcasting regulator, Ofcom, has withdrawn from Stonewall’s Diversity Champions scheme, fearing the association ‘poses a conflict or risk of perceived bias’.
As Sex Matters point out, Ofcom will continue to participate in Stonewall’s clandestine ‘Workplace Equality Index’ scheme and remains very cagey about the details. But, hey, it’s a start. Ofcom know we’re watching them.
And The Cracks Keep Appearing
Several articles detailing Stonewall’s demise have appeared in the media this week.
UNHERD: Jonny Best writes about the division in the LGB community caused by Stonewall’s adherence to gender identity ideology.
“One thing is becoming clear; Stonewall’s legitimacy is eroding, and with it the illusion that there is one LGBT community, to which the vast majority of us affiliate. There has been an irreversible shift.”
THE TELEGRAPH: Jo Bartosch writes about Stonewall losing relevance.
“The organisation has become a corpulent bully fat on tax-payers’ money, with tentacles spread throughout civil society. Stonewall have come to embody the ‘no debate’ identity-obsessed neurosis of social media - thin-skinned and directionless. Online they may cling to relevance, but in the real-world Stonewall’s reign of intolerance is coming to an end.”
THE TIMES: Jake Canter writes about worries within the BBC over the broadcaster’s association with Stonewall.
“There are concerns about the BBC being financially linked to Stonewall, as well as about how the charity’s advice could affect reporting. One presenter said: “Some of us are saying, ‘hang on, if we’re all being lectured about impartiality, and quite rightly so, why are we signed up to a scheme that is obviously partial?’”
GB NEWS: Andrew Doyle spoke to Colin Brazier about Stonewall’s ‘crisis of purpose’ and its ‘pushing gender identity ideology’.
“It’s a lobby group that are getting a lot money from the tax payer… I do think that ultimately, their time is over.”
And The Nominations Are…
Former Scottish Labour leader and feminist legend, Johann Lamont, has been shortlisted for the Holyrood Magazine political awards in four different categories.
Lamont has been nominated for Backbencher of the Year, MSP of the Year, Speech of the Year and Political Hero of the Year. In the latter category she was specifically mentioned for her work on the Forensic Services Bill and the introduction of Amendment 28.
Another nominee for Political Hero of the Year is Andy Wightman MSP who resigned from the Green Party over its approach to the debate around gender identity.
Good luck, Johann and Andy!
Great Scott
Professor Sophie Scott, neuroscientist and gender critical feminist campaigner, has won The Royal Society Michael Faraday Prize and Lecture 2021.
Huge congratulations, Sophie!
See You In Court
The two medical associations representing 3,000 doctors and health care professionals are taking legal action against the Biden Administration over mandatory ‘gender affirming’ medical treatment.
The American College of Paediatricians, the Catholic Medical Association and a clinician, Jeanie Dassow, have filed a suit against the US Department of Health and Human Services over the mandate requiring medical professionals to provide gender transition treatment, even to children, and even if they have medical or ethical objections.
In a statement, their legal representative, Ryan Bangert, said, “Forcing doctors to prescribe transition hormones for 13-year-olds or perform life-altering surgeries on adolescents is unlawful, unethical, and dangerous… President Biden’s Health and Human Services department is grossly overreaching its authority.”
Don’t Forget
And Finally…
I admire Lisa Townsend. It was brave of her to stand up, and look at all the other people she emboldened by doing so. We have a lot to thank her for!
Great to see some good news!
