Stonewalls Are Crumbling
Following Allison Bailey’s legal victory, it looks like public sector bodies will soon be under pressure to withdraw from Stonewall’s membership schemes.
Both contenders in the Tory leadership race are said to be opposed to Stonewall’s influence over taxpayer-funded bodies. A source close to Liz Truss told The Daily Mail, “Liz has long believed public sector organisations should withdraw from the Stonewall diversity champions scheme”. A spokesperson for Rishi Sunak commented, “Stonewall has become an organisation that no public sector body should associate with”.
Furthermore, law firms are being urged to leave Stonewall’s ‘workplace’ schemes in light of the ruling in Allison Bailey’s case.
Naomi Cunningham said that the outcome left participation in Stonewall’s schemes “Looking more like a source of legal risk than an insurance policy”.
First Do No Harm
The Psychologist published a letter signed by a number of clinicians. In the wake of the The Cass Interim Report and planned closure of the Tavistock, it calls for the psychology profession to move away from defensiveness and to investigate and acknowledge the mistakes that were made.
“Defence, not reflection, has been a theme throughout the story of GIDS… Rebuilding trust requires accountability, honesty and reflection. We must not retreat into the comfort of defensive denial at this crucial moment.”
A Step In The Right Direction
Justice Secretary, Dominic Raab, is expected to announce that pre-operative trans-identified male prisoners will not be accommodated alongside female inmates without ministerial sign-off.
A source for Rishi Sunak’s campaign said that he would implement the policy were he to become prime minister. “Rishi agrees it is right to have even tougher rules around male-bodied prisoners entering women’s jails”, the source told the paper.
Wonderful News From Kansas
Voters in a Kansas referendum turned out in huge numbers to ensure that the state’s constitution continues to protect abortion rights.
Over 900,000 Kansas citizens cast their vote in the primary elections and, even in one of the US’s most conservative states, the majority voted to protect abortion rights.
