Being trans is NOT a mental illness? Wait up a tick here. Weren't we all supposed to feel sympathy for the poor people who were unbearably tortured by their 'gender dysphoria'? Driven to suicide, even? So much that we all had to affirm their reality and stuff down our perception of our own so that they wouldn't be so tortured by the excruciating pain of seeing evidence that their insides and outsides did not match up? But now we're supposed to believe that this is perfectly natural and normal and will all be okay if we keep pretending black is white because the trans are JUST LIKE the gays. Whatever, Labour, you bunch of misogynist homophobes. None of US ever ran around screaming that if you didn't pretend our gay relationships were straight we'd hold our breath until we passed out.

I'd also venture that if gender dysphoria ISN'T a mental illness, why is the publicly funded NHS supplying medial treatment for it? If it's not an illness, we shouldn't be providing public healthcare for it. It's one of the trans Schrödinger's cat conundrums... Categorically denying that it's an illness whilst simultaneously making healthcare demands.

It's only a mental illness when it's convenient for them to lie about suicide statistics in the trans community.

And access free healthcare.

I wonder if there's a campaign to get gender dysphoria removed from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual. If there's no illness then treatment is not needed.

There's an update due next year so we'll have to wait and see. I'm not sure how removing it is beneficial for transgender people. Some would argue it removes the stigma associated with mental health, but if it ceases to be a recognised medical disorder, then surely insurance providers, health care providers, and pharmaceutical companies will be treating what exactly?

There is a campaign by one faction of trans activists to get "Gender Incongruence in Childhood" removed from the ICD by WHO.

They want "trans" to be recognised as "natural human variation" with any resulting dysphoria to be considered as due to "societal transphobia". This faction do not want children to be given any psychological help, medication or surgery.

They are using children to establish the "natural human variation" principle, arguing for Self-ID at any age (including swapping to and fro "gender fluidity") and that there should to be no requirement for any bodily modification, gender-stereotypical dress codes, etc. They want full recognition that nothing about physical appearance or biological sex bears any relation to Gender Identity, with gender identity being considered "biological" and sex being "a social construct".

However, they also want adults to have access on demand to whatever medication and surgical procedures they want.

That political faction is obviously at odds with the medical pharmaceutical industry, which backs medicalisation early and often but "depathologised", ie. not because it is considered a mental health problem.

Has anyone seen the movie "The Game" with Michael Douglas? His life is turned upside down by a series of implausible events which all turn out to be part of a game - but to him it's real.

I'm reading Helen Joyce's Trans and read above that "HMP Isle of Wight is distributing pronoun badges to inmates as part of a ‘gender identity inclusion drive’." and I'm wondering if someone has created an alternative reality just to mess with me!

So much of this is objectively, obviously insane that it makes no sense on any level! These people should exist as a small, lonely cult of wierdos, not be driving the agenda on the world stage. How do sensible people get dragged in and convinced by this???

I think there are a number of reasons the billionaire cult is funding this crap, but governments everywhere are salivating at the realization you can get people to totally deny glaring reality and believe anything. And as we move closer to our own extinction, this is a terrific distraction from the people who are killing us and our planet.

"Note the wording, “Supporting LGBT+ people, specifically transgender and intersex people, ensures the liberation of all.” "

This is not, and has never been a liberation or civil rights movement. When the weapon of censorship is wielded so recklessly over the most banal criticisms, it is tyranny. During the gay rights movement there was no demand for straight people to shut up, no death threats as the go-to tactic.

Expand full comment

Regarding the gay rights movement, what LGB people were asking for was the same rights and protections that heterosexuals had. They weren't asking for rights which were distinct from those of everyone else. Whereas, *some* transgender people are asking for additional rights and privileges that other people don't have, and in some instances, at their cost. Such as female only spaces being accessible to men who identify as women, even if this identification is flimsy or entirely bogus. LGB people weren't pressurising heterosexual people into seeing them as potential romantic and sexual partners, then referring to them as homophobic bigots if they were rejected. For a significant number of people claiming trans status and their supporters, it isn't about rights, it's about demanding the freedom and the means to manipulate and abuse. It seems inconceivable to me that any make born person who genuinely identifies as a woman and wants to live as a woman, would be hateful, discriminatory and bullying towards the group they felt part of and wanted acceptance from. On the other hand, what doesn't seem inconceivable at all is male born people who remain men, taking the opportunities being presented to them to make their misogynistic/homophobic fantasies become a reality that is legitimised, protected and celebrated.

Excellent comment! So many people have been duped into thinking the T goes naturally with the LGB.

I work in prisons. It had never occurred to me that the regular tensions and outbreaks of violence could be down to misgendering. These badges can't come quickly enough.

I absolutely do not understand the desire of some men to compete in women's sports. Not take part in a fun way, or training, competition. I used to box at middleweight. I never had any desire to fight flyweights. What would that prove to myself? Where would the pride or sense of achievement be in that? TiMs must be the same, deep down, right? They can't genuinely get the thrill of winning when they know it's unfair?

Expand full comment

Wanting to harm or humiliate women is probably a stronger motivation than pride in winning fair and square.

Expand full comment

It seems more likely that the kind of transwomen who want to compete in women's sports, particularly sports which involve a high level of physical strength and significant body contact, are more motivated by a desire to appropriate something that belongs to women and dominate them. People like that aren't going to be motivated by a sense of achievement and satisfaction on sporting terms.

WTAF re Isle of White pronouns for dangerous prisoners. Bet the ordinary screws on the floor had nothing to do with this. Inmates will give the air that they breathe for a bit of change to routine, starting on the route of “Fun with Pronouns” with bored and frustrated men in a hard prison? Better make some more women’s prisons you clueless bunch of fairytale believing wankers. 👿

Once again, Stonewall seem to be living in some isolated utopia where they claim things are what they WISH them to be, and not what they actually are, ie fairness and inclusion in sports. How can they say with a straight face that trans-identified males have no advantage over women!!!??? If they're using Hubbard as an example, he was never going to win anything, it was merely a litmus test to gauge public acceptance of trans-inclusion.

Well, re the prisons thing, at least they’re incarcerated in their own sex class. As long as that remains the case, they can call themselves whatever they like.

It’s a problem only if using she/her is going to be taken as a free ticket to a women’s prison.

Expand full comment

And it's also a problem if anybody, anywhere in the government is wasting time and resources affirming men's vanity personality projects. They can call themselves whatever they like. When they start wearing badges, paid for by taxpayers, and wasting the time of prison guards, paid for by taxpayers, and trying to compel speech to demand that other people validate their outright lies - there is now a problem.

In order to address the safeguarding needs of trans women "in particular", we need to keep accurate crime records on trans women.

Which "trans people" are Stonewall referring to? I haven't heard any uproar over trans men competing. Why has there been such a heavy focus on trans women and not trans men? Hmm??

In response to Keir Starmer saying it's "not right" to say only women have a cervix: Are you sure?? Tell me what you think a cervix is.

The mangling of language around sex and gender has them tying themselves in knots when asked to clarify their own statements. Like the concern over safety for "women and girls" following the Sarah Everard case. For a lot of these public figures and politicians, they can't even define what a woman is, so how do you begin to protect what you can't identify? It's obvious lip service and nothing more.

"The motion also demands that the party “Assert trans people’s same right for self-determination as anyone else”."

Rosa Freedman covers this in her presentation to the NZ Parliamentary Committee considering the Self-ID Sex/Gender proposal.

The Human Right to "self determination" relates to rights of a population as a collective entity, "a people", not to individual rights at a personal level.

It is another example of misuse of terminology, in this case one that has an agreed meaning in International Law.
