Another bumper edition of good news from the gender beat. Enjoy!
A Sporting Chance
After FINA’s announcement last week that trans-identified males are to be prevented from competing in elite women’s swimming, the issue has been gathering momentum with numerous other sporting bodies pursuing or considering similar policies.
Rugby League has decided to prevent trans-identified males from competing in women’s international matches while its governing body undertakes further research.
The International Hockey Federation is to review its policy on trans inclusion in women’s sport.
FIFA, football’s governing body, is considering a new policy which prevents anyone who’s been through male puberty from competing on women’s teams.
It also seems likely that World Athletics will impose a similar policy barring trans-identified males from taking part in female competitions.
The organisation’s president, Sebastian Coe, commented, “We have always believed, and repeated constantly, that biology trumps gender and we will continue to review our regulations in line with this… My responsibility is to protect the integrity of women’s sport.”
And it looks like public opinion is firmly on his side.
As always, the glorious Sharron Davies has been her usual amazing self and brought much media attention to bear on the issue. She appeared on BBC Radio 5 Live.
“I’m really pleased for all the female athletes around the world who’ve been denied fair competition in their category… Inclusion was trumping fairness in women’s sport.”
She wrote an article for The Daily Mail.
“Categories have always existed in sport to ensure fairness… Common sense and science must prevail similarly when it comes to trans athletes. We cannot throw fairness for female athletes under the bus of inclusivity and see female sport destroyed.”
She was interviewed in The Times.
“Fairness has to come before inclusion so we have to find better ways of being inclusive rather than throwing women’s sport under the bus.”
And, as the song sort of goes, she was all on the cover of Newsweek.
“I'll now be campaigning for every single sport to ban trans women from the female category. Women's races are there for females. That's why they have that category. Women's races are not there for mediocre males.”
Elsewhere in sport, tennis legend, Martina Navratilova spoke out against the IOC’s ‘lack of leadership’ on the issue of trans-identified males in women’s sports.
"The IOC has completely punted… They have to do the research and the implementation.”
Taking The High Road
In Scotland, the ever-brilliant Professor Alice Sullivan spoke at Holyrood’s Equalities, Human Rights and Civil Justice committee and destroyed the SNP’s case for self-ID.
Of the SNP’s ‘expert’ witness she said, “Dr Guyan is a research fellow in theatre, film and television studies… He said that he hadn't met quantitative social scientists who disagree with him. Well, he isn't mixing so much as quantitative social scientists, because he isn't one.”
Her appearance got some great coverage in the media, with articles in The Scottish Daily Express, The Times and The Herald. Brava, Professor!

When Irish Eyes Are Open
The Irish Independent devoted an entire letters page to readers having their say on the gender debate.
Last week the paper published a column by Eilis O’Hanlon on why “Women must be free to speak without fear of trans backlash”. This generated ‘an exceptional reader response’ so it has chosen to publish a selection of those letters on a dedicated page.
As Alan English, The Irish Independent’s editor, wrote in his introduction, “It is notable that the overwhelming majority of letters are strongly supportive of the views expressed by Eilis O’Hanlon.” Of the 25 letters printed, only one was negative.
Earlier in the week The Irish Times published a blisteringly good letter on gender ideology from one of the contributors to RTÉ's Liveline programmes on the subject.
“I believe there is a climate of fear in Ireland in relation to discussions about gender identity theory. People who do not subscribe to the theory are being vilified. Is this the Ireland we want for our children and future generations?”
Perhaps a public referendum on Self-ID is long overdue?
Before signing off this week, we’d like to express our sincere and heartfelt thanks to our paid subscribers. A lot of very hard work, time and effort goes into producing this site. We try to report on every fresh assault on women’s rights, offer a platform to those whose stories need to be heard and to host a number of feminist writers, covering stories the mainstream media would not dare touch.
Telling the truth in a time of universal deceit might be a revolutionary act but it is certainly no easy undertaking and standing against the devastating tsunami of gender ideology has not been not without cost or consequence.
We will always keep access to this site free of charge but its our paid subscribers who help us to maintain the volume and standard of our content. We are very grateful for your support.
If you value what we do here and would like to help us continue our vital work, please do consider taking out a subscription.
A huge thanks to ALL our readers. These are for you!
I hate the wording of the BBC article headline. Transgender players are not banned. They are not allowed to compete in the wrong category is all. The constant media manipulation and disinformation on this topic really drives me crazy!
Wow, thank you. Good to see the world of sport finally changing and good to remember Martina Navratilova who was one of the first to speak out.
And Ireland, at last, is listening to women.
Love both cat and dog clips, thanks for those too.
