Another bumper edition packed to the gills with good news stories from the gender beat this week. Enjoy!
Players With Balls
We have reported previously on the courageous heroines of the professional pool circuit. Alexandra Cunha, one of the world’s top-ranking female pool stars, is refusing to compete against trans-identified males, and Lynne Pinches, and Jo Hobday both withdrew from big matches rather than play against Harriet (formerly Christopher) Haynes, a trans-identified male.
This week The Daily Mail reported that thirty professional female pool players, including Lynne Pinches, are suing the World Eightball Pool Federation (WEPF), the sport’s governing body, over its policy of allowing trans-identified males to play in women’s categories.
They are represented by Peter Daly of Doyle Clayton Solicitors. Yes, that Peter Daly, who represented Maya Forstater in her landmark victory against CDG and represented Allison Bailey in her successful action against Garden Court Chambers. (Squeaky bum time at WEPF when they heard that news, no doubt!)
For more information and to support the case, see their CrowdJustice page here.
Right On Cue
And on the subject of the fabulous Lynne Pinches, this week her selfless defence of women’s sport was recognised and rewarded at her local pool club where she was cheered and applauded and presented with a trophy, flowers, cash, and a card.
“Each time a woman stands up for herself, without knowing it possibly, without claiming it, she stands up for all women.” - Maya Angelou
Nick Knows
Nick Fletcher, MP for Don Valley and a member of the Commons Education Committee, wrote an excellent article in The Express this week in which he decried the nonsense of gender ideology.
“No one is born in the wrong body and introducing a further conversion therapy ban would make it harder for people to combat this harmful idea. There is simply no scientific evidence behind the concept of gender identity. Now is the time to stand up. To put our heads above the parapet and say no. Loudly and strongly.”
Liz Steps Up
Another Tory MP joining the fight against gender woo is Liz Truss. She is to present a private member’s bill to parliament which is designed to protect dysphoric teenagers from medical intervention and to defend women’s single-sex spaces.
Truss is one of 20 backbench MPs involved in the private members’ bill. The proposed legislation would bar under-18s from taking cross-sex hormones and prevent the state from formally recognising their social transitioning. It would also protect single-sex spaces in law.
Women Won’t Wheesht
The Green Women’s Declaration now has a group in Scotland.

Academic Freedom In The City Of Steel
The Academics for Academic Freedom organisation now has a branch serving Sheffield’s two universities.
Launched this month, the new group will defend and promote free speech and academic freedom at the University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University.
“We invite interested members of academic staff, and students, to join us, irrespective of your disciplinary background, or your political views. We ask only that you are committed to defending and advocating for free speech and academic freedom as defined in the Academics for Academic Freedom statement of principles.”

They See Her Rowling
A podcast featuring JK Rowling (made by Bari Weiss’s media company, The Free Press) is one of Apple’s top-ten most shared in 2023.
In February this year, JK Rowling recorded a podcast in conversation with American political activist and writer, Megan Phelps-Roper (formerly a spokesperson for the Westboro Baptist Church who later became one of its fiercest critics).
Just in its first few month of broadcast, The Witch Trials of JK Rowling reached over five million listeners. And now it is listed No 6 on Apple’s top ten most shared podcasts for 2023. Huge congratulations to all concerned.
Terfin’ USA
WoLF reported on the massive 20 point drop in support for policies upholding gender ideology in California.
A new poll carried out in November by Spry Strategies reveals that the vast majority of Californian voters overwhelmingly oppose policies based on gender identity, a dramatic drop in support since 2020.
“Voters demonstrated a huge turn away from self-ID policies in prisons, changing rooms, and women’s shelters… The poll also demonstrated a majority of voters support enacting a legal, biological definition of ‘woman’, such as that offered by the Women’s Bill of Rights.”
But His Emails!
Still in the US, the Department of Justice has failed in its bid to prevent Rachel Levine's emails being exposed in an Alabama legal case.
A legal case has been brought against the state of Alabama over its 2022 Vulnerable Child Compassion and Protection Act (SB184) which bans puberty blockers, hormone replacement and gender surgeries for dysphoric children.
In defending the state’s ban on so-called ‘gender-affirming’ medical interventions for minors, lawyers for the state of Alabama have argued that Rachel Levine, Assistant Health Secretary, has ‘highly relevant communications and documents’ to the lawsuit.
The Department of Justice tried to block this motion but US District Court Judge, Liles Burke, has ruled that these documents must be produced.
Pass the popcorn…
Glinner Of Hope
Don’t miss Our Graham on the Wider Lens Podcast, speaking with Stella O’Malley and Sasha Ayad, this week.
If you’re quick, there's time to grab a signed copy of Graham’s book, Tough Crowd, direct from the publisher, Eye Books. But stocks are limited so hurry up!
And don’t forget that Tough Crowd, is available from Amazon, The Express shop, Lightning Eye, Waterstones, Blackwells and all discerning outlets. (There are also audio versions available on Audible and Spotify too.)
Phew, thanks JL all that is very cheering.
What a lovely gesture by Lynne Pinches' local club! I think it just shows ( and see WOLF poll) how Joe (and Josephine) Public will be on our side of the argument.
Nick Fletcher is going in our hall of fame I think 😊 and also a former prime minister...
Will the government back Liz Truss's marvellous bill - at last a chance for them to do something really positive. I couldn't see that Kemi B answered this question directly in the Commons today?
Great to see the increasing fightback within universities who have been the breeding ground for this gender woo which then seeps into government and organisations.
Well, that certainly improves on the original 'I'm a Barbie Girl' 😂
Thanks again
Dusty
Thanks for some excellent news stories JL. It’s particularly heartening to see women standing up for their sports and that support for gender crap is falling even in California.
That music video was very educational and helped to explain different styles of music. Would love to have heard a Vaughan Williams version. 😁
