This is a one-man argument for accelerating global warming.
I’m a little more protective of the Van Gogh vandals. The painting was behind glass and it made for a shockingly powerful protest. However successful it proves in stopping global warming in its tracks, it made an impact, and it’s certainly been successful in at least temporarily ruining their lives. Their schooling, their privilege and more have been gleefully shared by a furiously angry public and press class, who perhaps, like me, didn’t know the painting was behind glass and used their collective power to—sorry to resort to it but the phrase has never been bettered—break a butterfly on a wheel.
Believe me, I’m not exempting myself from all this. I only found out on Saturday night, though appearing on Andrew Doyle’s show, that the painting was behind glass, and I feel blessed that I’m still banned from Twitter, and didn’t have the ability to trumpet my instinctive, protective anger at hundreds of thousands of people. I actually think it was somewhat brave for these pampered kids to do what they did because they must have known they would face the full furnaced outrage of the Internet. When I see their hands shake as they apply superglue to them, I can’t help feeling as protective towards them as I do about the Van Gogh painting, and of course, that’s what they’re saying. We should be as protective of our young as we are of our art.
On the other hand, this guy will make people buy private jets.
That’s the difference between an attention-grabbing protest and an attention-seeking one. I think an adequate punishment for both him and the Van Gogh vandals would simply be to clean up their mess so a public sector worker doesn’t have to do it. The Van Gogh vandals made the bigger splash, and a splash of water would have taken care of it, but Queer Theory Ron Weasley here would have been up all night.
Agh, posted before pasting in a bit I meant to. Might be worth reloading the site to see updated version
And yet Jenny Swales was arrested for posting stickers, giving factual information about the number of women killed each week.
Marion Miller was arrested for tweeting pictures of ribbons allegedly causing fear and alarm
Looks like these women are supporting the wrong cause. Say you're a climate activists and anything seems to go.
For myself, I'd have let the 'bean slingers' stay glued to the wall for a good day or two until they pissed and shit themselves. That’s a powerful message about cleaning up mess.
