Just got this from a subscriber. Read it and weep. Eddie really should be ashamed of himself. Photo: Jean Hatchet (I think)
I wanted to mention something funny regarding Eddie Izzard invading ladies toilets.
In the late 90s, when I was about 18, I went to see Izzard at the Swindon Arts Centre. He was relatively unknown at the time.
My seat was next to a great big, fat, smelly pervert and I was boxed in between the pervert and the wall. I couldn't get out. He was just mental. I don’t know why he was there. He was just shouting abuse at Izzard at first. Then Izzard started taking the piss out of him. The guy was feeling me up, grabbing my leg, at the top of my thighs and my breasts, as well as using a lighter to see his watch while continung to shout abuse at Izzard.
I was absolutely petrified. But I was young. While I wanted to get out, I was also really embarrassed and I didn't want to hurt the pervert’s feelings.
This all happened in front of Izzard. I was only two rows away from a very small stage.
Izzard even mentions the incident during Dressed to kill in san Francisco.
To sum up. Eddie Izzard saw a woman sexually assaulted in his audience, in front of him, and a room full of people. Yet here he is, forcing women to share a bathroom with him. I'm so angry. He has witnessed at least one incident first-hand where a young woman was assaulted in public, and it’s not crossed his mind how much worse it might be in a toilet, OR how any woman, having been through that, might feel with him in their toilets OR that that same pervert, were he around today, could follow me into the toilet should he decide to self ID.
It's one thing to claim ignorance but another when you've seen it with your own eyes.
Anyway.
Just sharing anecdotal stuff.
Keep up everything you're doing.
Women shouldn't have to justify why they don't want men in their spaces.
All he had to do was to ask the guy to stop or have him removed by security.
