A friend just said the title is missing a comma: "1987, Virgin, Megastore, Dublin"

😂

No, it was better as '1987 Virgin' and there's no shame in that.

It was just a bit of fun , much needed in this world

Awww - the late 80s ... when we were so grateful for live entertainment and new music and not a mobile in sight. It was a job keeping hair vertical though.

The horrible smell of hair mousse. The dehydrated skin on the hands from it. The purple ink pad stamp on the wrist. But as you say, it was completely worth it for the absence of mobile phones.

Hi Jessica! You did a reading for me once in Shepherds Bush - and we ate sardines afterwards in the local cafe. I hope you're well.

Morning Sadie. I miss proper sardines, very few people cook them in Hobart. Happy Lunar New Year.

Ahhh the good old days where no one had any concept of identity and whether you liked it or not you had to come to some understanding with your bits.

Yup. Life's better when you're simply enjoying the world rather than staring at a screen and obsessing about some weird idea of me, my identity, my social media personality etc.

You really are a lovely man Graham

I'll second that!

Great memories Graham - this is lovely. Actual record shops on each high street. New bands - and established bands - playing in-store and signing. Sometimes you only found out while you were in the store browsing & the band started playing. Sometimes it was good! Then trying to sneak out records under cover of the crowd, security nightmare. It was the goth bands at the time for me, loads of eye-liner, black lipstick and nail polish - gender-bending (as we used to say...) but we knew what we were. Great fun, great days!

Nice trip down memory lane, Linehan! Hey, just got inside scoop, from a state investigator, on lack of licensing of "trans therapists" in US in 1990s. The psychologist who diagnosed my ex wasn't licensed at the time, tho had PhD. Had non-certified groomer doing lots of therapy hours with men like Neddy, working towards the holy grail of the surgeon letter. They didn't have to be certified or licensed back then. If she's still using non-credentialed underlings now, her license can be revoked. Parents of these kids must take note! Each state in US has licensing boards now. Just saw online ad for "gender affirming care training" and the charlatans are burgeoning! Some short clips of call with investigator upcoming~

And I bet at least 90 percent of the people in that photo are just as "transphobic" as he is :D

Holy shit I watched that video this morning!! Doing some research for a script I'm writing.

Can't believe it. That's too funny.

God, if we knew what was ahead of us.

oh the nostalgia. It took me a while to find you in the picture. I love you Graham and everything you do for women. I'm excited that Posie is coming to NZ in March. Maybe all the people who feel like me but are too afraid to show it will finally come out!

Aw happy memories. I liked the hairspray/earrings stylings of the two girls at the end (very similar to me at that age). I wonder where all those audience members are now?

Expand full comment

Similar to my styling then, too, back in the days when you could have your hair shaved at the back and sides and not be seen as having a 'man's hairstyle.' And oversized men's dinner jackets from Oxfam! With big diamante earrings - getting nostalgic now.
