Brazilian-born feminist writer and campaigner, Andreia Nobre, is being sued over an article she wrote two years ago about a trans-identified male grifter.
In June 2022, trans-identified male, Kim Flores Carlos, booked an appointment at a waxing salon, Millanea Instituto de Depilação, in São Paulo, Brazil. The salon owner, Isabel Martins da Silva, dealt with his telephone inquiry during which he gave his name as Kim and failed to mention that he is a man.
As is usual with intimate body waxing procedures, the female beautician attended Carlos in a private room. She returned to reception almost immediately to say that her client was a man and that his male genitalia was clearly visible through his underwear. Worse still, Carlos had an erection.
Consequently, the salon owner, Isabel Martins da Silva, told Carlos that the salon staff do not carry out waxing procedures on males. Given that the salon has a sign on the entrance making clear the business is strictly female-only, this can hardly have been a surprise to him. Carlos became angry, shouting at da Silva and the female beautician. When told that the staff do not have the necessary training to carry out waxing on male bodies, he shouted, “Then you have to put a sign saying ‘we only wax pussies’”.
Carlos began filming his altercation with the women in the salon. He later uploaded this video to TikTok, complaining that staff had refused to serve him because he is a ‘transwoman’. Of course he failed to mention that he’d expected a female beautician to wax his male genitals while he was in a state of sexual arousal.
On 13th December 2022, Carlos filed a lawsuit with the Special Civil Court against the waxing salon, demanding compensation for ‘moral damages’.
Our friend, Andreia Nobre, reported on this outrageous story, writing in 4W on 10th January 2023. (We subsequently included it in an edition of the War on Women.)
Andreia is a journalist and writer who was born in Brazil but has lived abroad since 2004. She writes about and campaigns for the rights of women and girls.
Now, even though she no longer lives there, Andreia is facing legal action in Brazil. Kim Flores Carlos, the trans-identified male at the centre of the waxing salon story, is suing her for referring to him as a man in her article. And, of course, he is alleging ‘transphobia’. According to the documentation Andreia has received, the charges against her are as follows:
“In the article, several terms that act in a pejorative way against Kim were used, in an evident act of transphobia, such as ‘A man who says he is trans’. Furthermore, the title itself describes her in this way. In addition, the report stated that ‘According to Isabel, the man gave a feminine name, ‘Kim’, when he scheduled an appointment for waxing’. And more: ‘The man tells the owner that it is ‘embarrassing’ for him to schedule an appointment and hear that ‘they only wax women’. He says he was very upset because ‘he had never seen a waxing clinic that did not work with various body types’. Finally, she also wrote ‘This is not the first time that a salon specializing in female waxing has refused to serve men who say they are trans’.”
Andreia has instructed legal counsel and is mounting a defence. If you would like to support her, she has suggested that the best way is to purchase one of her books on Amazon (you can find the link here).
We wish Andreia and her legal team the very best of luck.
Demented entitled pervert. He should be locked up indefinitely and be forced, in Bart Simpson style to write out 1000 times "I am a man". How did we get to the point in this world that advanced and civilised Western democracies have actually changed their laws to accommodate this fairytale thinking by such deranged narcissistic nutters.
The truth never gets tired. I wish people would rely on it more. Good on Andreia.
