Hey everyone, I've had this post by Julia's Book Chat for a long time and I'm very sorry I'm only getting around to publishing it now. Isn't it a corker?

It's a gem, Graham. Thank you for publishing it.

I want to say something significant after reading that but it was so evocative of the cruelty and the dreadful experiences of so many that I'm rather struck dumb.

Thank you.

Thank you for keeping a light shining on this travesty. It shouldn't be forgotten and for some it still goes on. I hope you are right that the tide is turning....

At some point someone that participated in the destruction of people’s lives needs to get a backbone, stand up, apologize and explain the mental delusion that creates the cancel evil. If people are not held accountable they will do it again. Somehow good people need to organize and stand against it instead of hoping it goes away. And I am talking to myself.

Some of us are trying! To organise I mean.

Authors are very cruel people often even to their readers . I made a comment about the historical inaccuracy of a serious of books on FB to an author. His rudeness was inexcusable and in the end we the readers have the power.

No author should be cancelled by their peers. Leave the judgement to the readers.

What an excellent and eye opening article. The very human cost of being victim of the trans ideology lunacy.

I wish the best for all the unfortunate souls who have suffered through it.

And to think that these vicious assaults catalogued here are all based on a lie, and a lie that most if not all the liars know is one, even as it comes out of their mouths.

I find it very difficult to believe things are changing. It seems all this has led to a hardening ( if that’s the right word?) of the human race, a plummet to the nastiest impulses of way, way too many people. Maybe they’re simply exhausted with their travails and need a rest before they move on to some other pointless, humourless, commonsenseless ‘cause.’

We’ll see.

In the meantime, as you say, people’s lives lay shattered. Never forgive these bastards I say.

Thankyou Julia Williams.

WOW... Come and find me. I'm @JCCWilliams on twitter. Also in the SMOG group. So sorry about your career. I know that feeling. One advantage of being an old git is the liberation that comes with it.

Good for youx

God, how I despise those cancelistas. I'm impressed by you though, Julia!

Thanks very much. One of the joys of being older is that I no longer have to worry about my career, which is very liberating. I am full of admiration for everyone I've mentioned (and for Graham of course), for still being able to stand up and keep going after all that has been done to them.

This is reminding me of the Guerilla Girls' (1985!!!) 'advantages of being a female artist': having a break from your career in your four part-time jobs'

Thank you so much! No I don't think it's over either, but I think things are shifting.

Here's hoping 🤞

The thing about asking would-be cancellistas (love that term!) to stop and consider the devastation they will bring to real people before they join the pack of hounds is that they know that already. They KNOW.

Juliasbookchat's avatar

Yes that's true. But I think it's worth saying anyway. Someone, somewhere might take pause. And I think laying out what has happened is a good reminder to the people who stayed quiet just what harm has been done. I know people who have kept their heads down this entire time and simply don't know or just have forgotten because it doesn't affect them.
