The Scottish government is currently taking evidence about the proposed reform of the 2004 Gender Recognition Act. The legislation would, if passed, allow anyone over the age of sixteen to change their legal sex by self-declaration without requiring any medical diagnosis or physical alteration.
On Tuesday 14th June, barrister, Naomi Cunningham, Chair of Sex Matters and a regular contributor to The Legal Feminist website, had an opportunity to address the committee.
She pointed out that there are males who choose to cross-dress in public for ‘erotic purposes’ and such males could easily access single-sex spaces by applying for a GRC under the proposed legislation.
The two men behind her started sniggering, perhaps hoping to broadcast their contempt for Naomi’s analysis.
So let’s have a closer look at the men behind her, ‘Gwen’ and ‘Beth’, and you can judge yourself whether Naomi got it right.
The trans-identified male in the blue dress sitting directly behind Cunningham appears to be Gwen Wall (pronouns It/She i/ise).

He is the co-chair of LGBT+ Labour Scotland and, in November 2021, took one of the seats on the Scottish Labour Women’s Committee.
The trans-identified male to the right of the screen is Beth Douglas, known on social media as @pickle_bee. He confirmed this himself on Twitter.
Douglas is the co-convenor of the Rainbow Greens and his Twitter account comes with an 18+ warning.
Of course, he claims to be a woman (whilst simultaneously describing feminist campaigners as a ‘hate group’).
Though his idea of womanhood is… interesting.
For someone who claims to be a woman, Douglas doesn’t seem to have a problem advocating violence against women.
Predictably, he deems women defending their sex-based rights to be ‘fascists’.
In the post below, from 2019, he defended fellow trans activist, Peyton Rose, who had incited people to ‘throatpunch’ the feminists of For Women Scotland.
In this post from just a few months ago Douglas talks about beating up ‘cis’ people with his mates.
He clearly has no respect for women’s boundaries and he invades female spaces.
In this tweet he is encouraging trans activists to sabotage a perfectly legal event at which women want to come together to discuss issues that concern them.
Several years ago he took up a role intended for a woman at the NUS.
Of course, he talks about ‘TERFs’ in tediously predictable terms.
The women refusing to validate his claims of womanhood are subject to scorn and vitriol. This is how he talks about JK Rowling.
This is how he responded to JK Rowling when her address was made public, putting her and her family in danger.
He has similarly maligned Joan McAlpine, journalist and former Scottish National Party politician.
He has responded to her comments with puerile images.
And abusive memes.
And he called her a ‘wanker’.
Beth Douglas is a ‘sex worker’.
He appears on a website called Adultwork.com where he is known as Bee.
He describes himself as “A young trans girl… I'm pre-op and been on hormones for over two years that continue to feminise my body. I have natural perky tits that are steadily growing bigger, an ass that is begging to be played with and a 7 inch surprise in my underwear.”
He took part in an online Q&A about sex work in which he peddled the offensive claim that women can have a penis.
He talks a lot about being a ‘slut’.
And he posts photographs of himself in women’s underwear to social media.
So this male with the ‘seven inch surprise in his underwear’ uses women’s spaces, takes women’s roles, sneers at women’s safety being compromised and advocates violence against the women who refuse to bend to his will while boasting about being a ‘slut’ and posting photographs of himself in lingerie on a public forum.
We should thank him for getting in shot and perfectly illustrating Naomi’s point. Men like ‘Beth’ are not transexuals, and they’re certainly not women.
UPDATE: Beth Douglas is claiming that we ‘doxxed' him by including a link to his adultwork.com site. Perhaps he’s forgotten that he shared this link himself to his own public Twitter account quite some time ago.
What I honestly don't get is how some people cannot see these people for what they are. If Boris Johnson, for example (and sorry for the mental image here) was found to have a adult worker profile like that in his past, or social media pics of him saying he wants to throat punch women because he didn't like or respect their point of view then it would be right to hold him accountable so why is it ok for people like this pair who are seeking political offices? There is such a double standard in operation. The magic trans sparkle dust seems to get in otherwise rational people's eyes so they can't see straight. This pair are scum and I feel for Naomi having to present with this pair of smirking ninnies behind her. They know what she is saying is true and that is the look of people that are (so far) getting away with it.
