Owen Hurcum is a vicious male bully
Bangor's new mayor tells you not to ask about his genitals while behaving like a prick
Last week, 23 year old Owen Hurcum was sworn in as the new Mayor of Bangor. Originally from Harrow, he first moved to the city five years ago to study Archaeology at the university. He was the deputy mayor for 12 months prior to his election by the City Council several months ago.
Hurcum identifies as ‘gender queer’ and uses they/them pronouns.
But he is a man.
Even gender ideologues, Mermaids, know he’s a man.
He doesn’t like people pointing out that he’s a man so he’s writing a book called Don’t Ask About My Genitals. (Owen, no-one wants to.)
Of course, Hurcum is being lauded in the media as if a white male succeeding in politics is an unprecedented development. (Don’t forget ‘Emilia’!)
But none of these reports mention Hurcum’s rampant misogyny and propensity to sabotage the careers of women who displease him.
Helen Mary Jones was serving Wales as a Plaid Cymru politician years before Owen Hurcum was born. Her various roles have included Shadow Minister for Education and Deputy Director of Wales’ Equal Opportunities Commission. For 12 years she was a member of the National Assembly and spent much of that time on the Equality Committee. She also worked for a national youth association where she helped to set up a country-wide network for young trans people.
In 2018 Jones spoke at a Woman’s Place UK meeting in Cardiff. She expressed her worries over the rocketing numbers of teenage girls being treated for gender dysphoria and her concerns over proposed self ID legislation. She also discussed these issues via her Twitter account.
Owen Hurcum does not seem to think female politicians should be allowed to explore and discuss such issues.
And he disapproved of the Twitter accounts Jones followed.
So on March 3rd Hurcum stood down from his Plaid Cymru candidacy. He was the fourth Plaid Cymru candidate on the North Wales regional list. Helen Mary Jones was the party’s candidate for Llanelli.
He said he could not “In good conscience stand as a candidate for Plaid whilst they continue to platform a candidate who has promoted, and continues to promote, transphobia".
(A cynic might suggest that Hurcum had little chance of success in the election and was already mayor-elect in Bangor so perhaps his resignation wasn’t quite the grand gesture he wanted it to seem.)
Hurcum made it clear he wanted the party to take disciplinary action against Jones and demanded her total supplication. "I want a sincere apology and I want her to make an effort to learn about the community and understand why she's perpetrating transphobia. If she doesn't resign, she at the very least needs to make it very clear that she's sorry and very clear that she's learning.”
He continued to whip up a Twitter frenzy, putting pressure on party leader, Adam Price, to take action against her.
Jones subsequently had to issue a grovelling apology for ‘the pain and hurt’ she had caused to the trans community. She closed her personal Twitter account and promised to undergo ‘awareness training’.
However, even this was not enough for Hurcum and he responded with a public statement of his own. “My personal acceptance of her apology will be judged solely on the actions she takes from now on… Perhaps it would have been wiser for her to have stepped away from the candidacy until such time as she can prove she has unlearned her transphobia.”
Big Brother is watching you, Helen.
And he’s not above perpetuating lies about feminist groups.
Whether they’re defending their legal sex-based rights or celebrating International Women’s Day, Owen doesn’t hold with women who refuse to prioritise males.
He’ll show those uppity females what happens if they dare to step out of line.
Helen Mary Jones was an example to the others.
Yelling 'TERF' and 'transphobe' - simply ignorant, bloated cat-calls to the rancid, seething gender gallery.
A gallery made up of simple-minded, ideological dullards and blue-haired, tunnel-visioned students, prone to dangerously dichotomous thinking and still fresh out of gender or ‘queer’ studies at Aberystwyth University, and who are incapable of rubbing their own brains cells together. They simply regurgitate their 'opinions', ready-made and fully formed from a diet of Owen Jones Twitter feed and what they think Judith Butler may have once said on an obscure meme that their trans cousin twice-removed possibly saw on Twitter. (It wasn't Butler, it was Paisley)
What is worse is that this is an elected official; a mayor, no less. The highest ranking official in a UK town. This is a mayor who shouts and screams these unwarranted insults through his rainbow megaphone to no-one in particular. He is not fit to be in office - any office. Even ex-mayor Boris Johnson at his most incessantly rude and crassly racist, would not stoop to gutter level insults of such a large group of the populace.
An elected official should have a thoughtful, listening and sober demeanour, and represent the people of the town - those who elected him, and not. He should not stoop to typical Twitter playground insults of the gender critical because they have minds of their own with which they have examined the evidence, and as a result, refused to bend over and take his pernicious ideology up the arse.
He is a child. And children belong in the sand pit, playing with their peers.
"A cynic might suggest that Hurcum had little chance of success in the election..."
A cynic? Nah... Just a realist.
