Keep on keeping on, Holly

So, remember Holly Lawford Smith, who I spoke to a while ago with Katherine Deves? You don’t have to watch the whole thing, but do please just catch a few incidences of Holly speaking before moving on.

Whichever bit you ended up watching, was there anything bigoted or hateful in anything she said? No, of course there wasn’t. There never is. And yet, this is what she’s been going through in Australia in the last few weeks. Nothing unfamiliar, I hasten to add. The toxic misogyny of this form of men’s rights activism knows no borders.

Katherine’s thread is where to start, but here are a few ‘highlights’.

Remember, all this was because she launched a website to gather the stories of women impacted by gender identity.

Another fellow academic at the Uni wrote an open letter denouncing HLS, calling for her to be removed from teaching a Feminist course that she designed and is wholly qualified to give (being a radical feminist and a Lesbian!)

Trans-rights activists held a protest yesterday on campus to denounce HLS and the website. A small, determined group of supporters wearing t-shirts in support of Holly went along - they stood silently as they were surrounded and verbally abused by enraged students

The speeches outright defamed HLS, making all sorts of unfounded accusations and outrageous claims, not based on facts. Luckily there is footage of all this. I’m going to give a warning for foul language & disturbing, aggressive behaviour.
