The Green Party of England and Wales held its autumn conference last weekend. One would hope that the headline news to come out of conference would be about the environment, or maybe the cost of living crisis.
But no.
Once again the Green Party has showed its true colours and they appear to be pink white and blue.
The weekend was spattered with earnest blathering around inclusivity, and healing the dilated wound of sex and gender. For some, this was blatant babbling lip service, as their goal soon became obvious – a 'Solidarity with Drag Queen Story Time' motion was passed.
It declared that men parodying grotesque distortions of women must be allowed to display themselves in front of children without the onerous bother of enhanced DBS checks . The gender bending of the conference rules by SOC (standing orders Committee), which allowed this motion to push to the front of the motions queue was a particularly low blow.
Women who query whether plastic titted drag fake ladies are a true representation of stunning and brave inclusivity were fictionalised as right wing mean girls, force teamed with 'racist, anti-migrant, anti-Semitic, white nationalist ,male supremacist, misogynistic, men’s rights groups, homophobic and transphobic groups.' Meanwhile the party has been studiously deaf, schtum and blind to the green and black pampers bullying of women who wont bloody well wheesht.
A young green co leader took to the stage to give us her political wisdom which boiled down to “Fuck the patriarchy,” though she did not expand on which position to fuck it from, or notice that the patriarchy, dressed in its extra large stilettos, seemed to be fucking her. We are told the Young Greens are at the heart of the Party. Maybe it's time for a bypass operation.
Another young woman who had the nerve to share her rather more insightful opinions of the Party was hauled over the coals for speaking truth to power. Her report to conference was expunged from the record because she dared to express her fears about the unequal treatment of members with gender critical views. This was her message the party did not want to hear:
“I remain concerned about the impact of avoidable legal cases on our finances and party morale. We cannot treat certain members discriminatorily because of their beliefs and we must be careful about opening ourselves up to yet more costly legal cases by failing to take into account the fact that gender critical beliefs are now protected by law.”
In among the dirty dealings there were also plenty of shining moments. The Green Party Women 'Global Women for a Greener Future' fringe event with star guests from Uganda was inspiring and uplifting. The speakers certainly know what a woman is - she plants the fields, carries the water, raises the children but does not own the land. Everything she creates, her work her struggles, can be taken by a man.
The leaders Q and A session threw up this question: leaders were asked to "unequivocally condemn gender critical belief as transphobic". In response, Co leader Adrian Ramsay spoke of the need for nuance, compassion and respect for the interests of all, and talked of the Cass report. This contrasted sharply with the Deputy Leaders earlier tyrannical rant that 'there is no LGB without the T.'
The space between the 2 positions will be watched with interest.
And there even appeared to be a smattering of unease among the Green Party nobility who see that their Young Green lapdogs may turn and bite if they try to reign them in. Having been left to run amok, the TRA's are growling at any notion that they may have to share spaces with gender critical members instead of being allowed to hound them out of the party.
So though the atmosphere is hostile, and the party TRA's will fight tooth and painted nail to keep their choke hold, the party is stumbling 2 steps one way and one the other, and, whether for better or worse, the climate is changing.
They lied their arses off to get that (non) emergency motion onto conference floor. Party members had voted for two very important energy crisis motions which are what should have been heard. Instead we heard Young Green and Stratford Cllr Nate Higgins shamelessly asking for enhanced DBS checks to be dropped. The only difference between a normal DBS and enhanced is that enhanced checks search the Children’s Barred List - so what he was asking for IN PLAIN SIGHT - was NOT to check whether they might have committed sexual offences against children whilst asking the entire conference to show these people who want to skip safeguarding ‘solidarity’ 😳. And his cronies (who frankly need their hard drives checking) supported it. Imagine voting for THAT four years after the party was forced to take an independent safeguarding review because of the David Challenor debacle. What a shit show.
Hhmmm. Drag queens or the disappearing rainforest? Let's see now. Drag queens or coastal flooding and erosion? Hhmmm. Such a difficult choice upon which to expend our capital and effort. Drag queens or Pakistan under water? Drag queens or drought causing starvation? Hhmmm. Drag queens or the increasing ferocity and number of hurricanes? Hhhmmm. Such a conundrum. Okay then, as ethical progressive Green Party members, we must decide. Drag queens it is.
