Dear JK Rowling,
I see this Nicola Spurling person has doubled down on their disgusting accusations even after your lawyers intervened and got a bad-tempered apology out of them.
Given this, please, for the rest of us, for all of us who have been libelled and smeared for the crime of standing up for women, sue this person. Sue this person, take every penny they crowdfund and give it to Vancouver Rape Relief so they can afford extra security.
We need to get the spotlight on these tactics and these accusations, and what these tactics and accusations mean to their victims. I tried my best, but I was just a lowly sitcom writer. You could make a huge difference by showing these people that they just can’t go around saying anything they like about anyone. These malicious lies, the gaslighting, the abusive tactics, everyone gets the same treatment, scaled up or down to suit the target.
Shine a light on it. Shine the brightest possible light you can on it. Because these people don’t like the light.
And finally, thank you again for your intervention. I was hoping someone would tag me out, and sure enough, as Stella O’Malley points out here, you’re currently getting the Twitter experience I remember so fondly.
Hope this finds you and yours safe and well.
Your servant,
Graham Linehan (beloved Internet personality)
They really have a warped impression on what's safe or dangerous to children.
Times like these make me wish I hard pursued a degree in law so that I knew better the exact legal definitions of slander/libel.
