Plenty of good news stories from the gender beat this week. Enjoy!
Reem Rocks
Reem Alsalem, the UN Special Rapporteur on violence against women and girls, has issued an unequivocal statement condemning the bullying and silencing of women who challenge gender ideology to defend their sex-based rights.
“I am concerned by the shrinking space in several countries in the Global North for women and feminist organisations and their allies to gather and/or express themselves peacefully in demanding respect for their needs based on their sex and/or sexual orientation Holding and expressing views about the scope of rights in society based on sex and gender identity should not be delegitimised, trivialised, or dismissed.”
Women Not Wheeshting In Glasgow
Scottish campaign group, Women Won’t Wheesht, held its inaugural Speakers Corner meeting in Glasgow last weekend. It was a grand day out and a huge success.
Over 200 were in attendance to raise women’s voices. There are lots of great photographs from the event - search the hashtag #GlasgowWontWheesht.
New Kids On The Block
There’s a brilliant new group to follow in the fight against gender ideology.
Ireland-based Not All Gays describe themselves as “A group of LGBs joined together to defend our rights, protect children and encourage honest discussion”.
Free Speech On Campus
Over 100 Oxford students have condemned attempts by their peers to cancel an event hosting Professor Kathleen Stock at the university debating society.
The students have written to The Telegraph denouncing those who are trying to bully the Oxford Union and to silence Professor Stock.
“We value free speech. It is free speech we sign to defend, as the lifeblood of universities, learning, and modern democracies. Those who aim to silence it do not speak for us.”
Good Lords
54 peers formally complained to Ofcom about Channel 4’s ‘irresponsible attack’ on Baroness Falkner, the head of the EHRC, following its heavily skewed news item broadcast earlier in the week.
Furthermore, the EHRC investigation into Baroness Falkner’s conduct has been ‘paused’ due to the growing opposition over what has been described as ‘an attempted’ coup by trans-activist civil servants.
Victorian Values
In news from Australia, it seems that members of the Green Party in the state of Victoria have had enough of the gender stasi calling the shots. According to the Sydney Morning Herald, “The leadership [is] facing pushback from ordinary members who believe bullying by trans activists is a bigger problem within the party than bigotry”.
A special panel was established last year to investigate accusations of transphobia within the Victorian Green Party. Its report was presented at the Green’s state council meeting last week.
The report not only exonerated the two prominent party members who are repeatedly accused of being anti-trans - Rohan Leppert and Linda Gale - it also found that the ‘overwhelming majority’ of submissions made to the panel argued that the pair should be allowed to express their views on sex and gender.
A source who attended the state council meeting said, “People are fed up. People want to talk about climate change, they want to talk about housing. They are sick of people coming to their branch meetings and telling them they are transphobic.”
A Good Start
British Cycling has revised its Transgender and Non-Binary Participation Policy and now bans trans-identified males from women’s competitions.
The new policy is ‘predicated on fairness’ and will mean that women’s races are limited to females only. An ‘open’ category will be created to accommodate trans-identified and ‘non-binary’ cyclists.
Glinner Of Hope
Don’t miss Our Graham on the Good Listener Podcast (now available on all the usual podcast platforms).
Pinch me, I'm dreaming! Members of a Green Party have actually remembered what they stood for and blamed the gender m*niacs in their midst? Miracles DO happen! 🥳💥
The green party finally stand up!!! Delighted for women won't wheesht Glasgow, well attended and it looked great well done to them! LGB in ireland forming up to pushback on the transayatollohs great news. Good work from Reem Alsalem. Kathleen Stock was amazing this week. The dreadful witch hunt of Baroness falkner at least showed the genderborg stasi up for exactly what they are, over privileged, overpaid whingebags, she stood firm good on her. While the British cycling news is a step in the right direction its a step only, but more needs to be done. Will watch Glinner ASAP.
