A Week in the War on Women: Monday 13th December - Sunday 19th December GOOD NEWS SUPPLEMENT
Just a handful of this week’s good news stories from the gender beat.
Women Won’t Wheesht
Members of the Women’s Rights Network have been doing a brilliant job of protesting the loss of female-only spaces and raising awareness of this issue.
The ‘All I want for Christmas’ campaign was reported in the local paper in Huddersfield.
When Dinosaurs Ruled The High Street
Speaking of brilliant feminist activism, do take a look at this. It’s just glorious!
Kudos to the wonderful @sianllewellyn17, @sammie_2007 & @tangentials for pulling off and capturing this dino shopping trip!
Bringing Ireland’s Politicians To Book
What a great initiative from feminist groups, The Countess and Women’s Space Ireland. They are sending copies of Helen Joyce’s book to members of the Irish parliament.
Good News From Down Under
In Tasmania, attempts to prevent a gender critical event from being held at Hobart city hall have failed.
Jax Fox is a ‘non-binary’ Tasmanian councillor with a reputation for shutting down debate around gender ideology. She tabled a motion at a meeting of Hobart City Council last week with the intention of preventing The Coalition of Biological Reality from hosting its planned forum at the City Hall in February. The council voted against the motion and the event is going ahead.
Nicola Will Be Cross
The Times reported on a poll which suggests that the Scottish government is facing a massive backlash over its proposed self-ID legislation.
The poll, commissioned by For Women Scotland, demonstrates that the majority of Scottish people oppose the proposed legislation which will allow people to ‘self declare their gender’.
Luckily, all those people polled have an alternative to the SNP at the next election; The ALBA Party supports and defends women’s sex-based rights, as it makes very clear in the latest promotion material.
Adults In The Room At The Supreme Court
A ‘non-binary’ activist has lost her ongoing legal fight to be issued with a ‘gender neutral’ passport.
Christie Elan-Cane mounted a legal challenge over the government's refusal to issue gender-neutral passports. The Supreme Court unanimously dismissed her appeal.
Lord Reed, president of the Supreme Court, commented, “There is no legislation in the United Kingdom which recognises a non-gendered category of individuals”.
The Dominoes Continue To Fall
University College London has announced that it will not be renewing its Stonewall memberships.
“In weighing up all opinions in this debate, UCL’s senior leadership team has accepted Academic Board’s advice about the fundamental need to uphold academic freedom and freedom of speech in an academic context, recognising that a formal institutional commitment to Stonewall may have the effect of inhibiting academic work and discussion within UCL about sex and gender identity.”
Scouts’ Honour
The Scout Association has apologised to Maya Forstater for two years of investigation following a complaint of ‘mis-gendering’.
The complaint was made against her by professional enby, Gregor ‘they/them’ Murray. In a letter to Maya Forstater, the Scout Association said that, had it considered the evidence she submitted at the time, Murray’s complaint may well have been found to be vexatious. (Oh dear, ‘they’ must be furious.)
Writing in Unherd, Julie Bindel commented, “The apology is another win for feminists against the trans witch hunt”.
Nice one as ever, JL! A very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you, Graham, Moley, and all the others that make this the site I look forward to most each day. Also, to my fellow followers and commenters, you are some of the best people I don't know. I wish you the best end-of-year festival you can have. ❤️❤️❤️
So many courageous & brilliant women :-)
