Plenty of stories to hearten and encourage us this week…
Gavin Continues To Peak The World
According to The Daily Mail, the public feels 'betrayed' by Laurel Hubbard’s inclusion in the New Zealand women’s weightlifting team.
A poll conducted by Daily Mail Australia revealed that 2,418 readers, 96% of those who voted, feel Hubbard’s inclusion is unfair.
The Mirror reported on a petition calling on the IOC to suspend the ‘transgender policy’ which allows Hubbard to compete on the women’s team.
At the time of publishing this piece, the total had risen to 36,000 and was still rising!
Lancet Letter On Gender Health Care
The Lancet published an important letter from the Thoughtful Therapists group about the treatment of gender questioning children and adolescents. It challenges and corrects the arguments and statistics featured in The Lancet’s recent Child & Adolescent Health's Editorial.
Psychotherapist, Stella O’Malley; “The backlash against lazy academia with regard to trans issues is gaining ground. No longer will people be able to write inaccurately without being corrected… I'm very thankful that we can now rely on the Lancet to ensure accuracy in this emotive subject”.
£25k fine for ‘negligent’ Mermaids
In June 2019 The Sunday Times reported on Mermaids’ serious data breach. Over 1000 confidential emails, which included intimate information about and contact details for vulnerable children, were made public and easily searchable on the internet.
An independent investigation has concluded that “Mermaids had a negligent approach towards data protection with inadequate policies and a lack of training for staff” and the Information Commissioner’s Office has fined the organisation £25,000.
Policy Exchange Challenges “Trans” Guidance For Courts
The Policy Exchange is a leading UK think tank. It has published a report challenging the guidance on issues of gender produced by the Judicial College and calling for an urgent revision of the Equal Treatment Bench Book.
”Transgenderism is the focus of vigorous public debate at present. Questions as to the relative significance of gender identity and physical sex and what it means to be trans are at the heart of arguments about whether transwomen should compete as women in sports, whether medical intervention is appropriate for young teenagers who don’t identify with their sex, who should be in women’s prisons and how public debate should be conducted. The courts are increasingly asked to grapple with these questions. However, guidance produced by the Judicial College is surprisingly committed to some of the ideas and claims that are in dispute.”
Government Vows To Uphold Free Speech In Transgender Debate
Government officials have given assurances that they will protect minors from "irreversible decisions" in the debate over conversion therapy.
The Government Equalities Office was responding to clinicians who are concerned that a ban on conversion therapy will criminalise professionals treating children with gender dysphoria.
"We will ensure parents, teachers and medical professionals are able to safeguard young people from inappropriate interventions and are clear that this ban must not impact on the independence and confidence of clinicians to support those who may be experiencing gender dysphoria."
Women Won’t Wheesht In Court
Feminist campaign group, For Women Scotland, are to appeal against the court judgment which allows the word ‘woman’ to include trans-identified males.
Next week the group’s lawyers will begin an appeal against that decision at the Court of Session in Edinburgh.
If you’d like to contribute to their legal funds, you can do so here.
And Finally…
Oh some good news, that's great yo read JL. Thank you very much.
Just pledged - they're close but only have 1 day left. I hope they can still go to court with it.
Ref Mermaids, well, schadenfreude can sometimes be a guilt-free feeling of glee.
