A handful of the good news stories from the gender beat this week! Enjoy!
Queen JK Reigns
Just when we thought it was impossible to love and respect her more, JK Rowling has announced her incredible new project, a female-only centre for survivors of sexual violence in Edinburgh and the Lothians.
She spoke exclusively to Suzanne Moore about Beira’s Place, a vital support and advocacy service run by women for women.
Moore described Beira’s Place in her article: “This feels like a warm and safe space. The room is full of women who have decades of experience of working with women who have suffered rape and violence… Women will come, their needs will be assessed and then the appropriate therapy and help will be found for them. For free.”
The Times reported on the awesome women which comprise Beira’s board; Rhona Hotchkiss, a former prison governor, Johann Lamont, lawyer and former leader of the Scottish Labour Party, Dr Margaret McCartney, an academic, broadcaster and Glasgow GP, and Susan Smith, director of For Women Scotland. Beira’s chief executive is Isabelle Kerr, a former manager of Glasgow Rape Crisis.
By the way, the service is named after Beira, the Scottish goddess of winter who represents female wisdom, power and regeneration.
So Long, Sam
Non-binary panty-pilferer, Sam Brinton, has finally been fired from his US government job after being charged with theft.
Suspended from this role after being charged with stealing women’s luggage in Minneapolis and Las Vegas, the Department of Energy confirmed this week that he is no longer employed there.
And while we’re on the subject, this is genius.
Sanity In Ohio
This week the Ohio Board of Education passed a resolution in opposition to the Biden administration Title IX revisions which prioritise gender identity.
The Ohio Board resolution requires that students compete in sports and use bathrooms, locker rooms and toilet facilities on the basis of their biological sex.
“The Board acknowledges the pain experienced by those suffering with gender dysphoria and that decisions regarding the appropriate course of action for minor students experiencing symptoms of gender dysphoria rightfully belong in the hands of parents rather than the state.”
Norwegian Blues
Norwegian feminist, Christine Ellingsen, has announced that the case against her has been dropped by the police.
We Told You So
Research by YouGov for The Times has found that around two thirds of Scottish people are opposed to the SNP’s gender reform bill.
The results of the poll were as follows:
One For The Reading List
Hannah Barnes’ book is now available for pre-order. It is “The inside story of the collapse of the Tavistock’s gender service for children”.
“This urgent, scrupulous and dramatic book explains how, in the words of some former staff, GIDS has been the site of a serious medical scandal, in which ideological concerns took priority over clinical practice.” Both the hardback and ebook editions of Time To Think are released on 16th February 2023.
In relation to the results of that poll, I'm sure the majority of those who said 'Don't know' would vote in favour of reality if they had a better understanding of the situation.
The B&S account is suspended!
