It is my pleasure to present a few of the good news stories from the gender beat this week. Enjoy! (Editor’s note: Sorry I’m so late getting this online!)
Round One To Vollbrecht
In recent weeks we have reported on German biologist, Marie-Luise Vollbrecht, who fell foul of trans activists after she was scheduled to give a lecture about the reality of biological sex.
Attempts to ruin her career included (wholly unfounded) social media rumours that she is a fascist and a Holocaust denier.
But Vollbrecht and her lawyer, Ralf Höcker, brought a successful court injunction against those spreading these libellous claims. Following a decision by the Cologne Regional Court last week, the trans activists can no longer peddle their vicious lies.
JK Strikes Again
JK Rowling, writing as Robert Galbraith, released her new book, The Ink Black Heart, this week. It is the sixth book in the hugely successful Cormoran Strike series.
Within 24 hours of its release, it was No 2 in the Amazon best seller list.
For Your Reading List
Hannah Barnes has spent several years investigating and reporting on the devastating failures of the Tavistock & Portman clinic.
Her forthcoming book, Time to Think: The Inside Story of the Collapse of the Tavistock’s Gender Service for Children, will be published in the spring by Swift Press.
Publisher, Mark Richards, told The Bookseller, “Time to Think is the definitive account of the decade-long medical scandal that has unfolded at the Tavistock’s gender identity development service for children, by the journalist who has done more than anyone to uncover the story.”
Women Won’t Wheesht
The redoubtable For Women Scotland will, yet again, be seeing the Scottish government in court over its attempt to redefine the word ‘woman’.
Following FWS’s successful legal action over the redefinition of ‘woman’ in the Gender Representation on Public Boards (Scotland) Act 2018, the Scottish government had to publish revised statutory guidance to accompany the legislation.
However, FWS are challenging the revised wording which, they say, still fails to define ‘woman’ in accordance with the Equality Act 2010 and is not, therefore, compliant with the court order.
Permission has now been granted for their judicial review and a date set for 9th-10th November. This case is important as it could have considerable bearing on the work of Committee on the Gender Recognition Reform (GRR) Bill and we wish FWS every success.
