A Level Playing Field
The big news of the week is the decision by World Athletics to prevent trans-identified males from competing in female categories.
This week the World Athletics Council announced that from 31st March any athlete who has gone through a male puberty will be barred from female world ranking competitions.
The governing body’s president, Lord Coe, stated, “Where the science is insufficient to justify maintaining testosterone suppression for transgender athletes, the council agreed it must be guided by our overarching principle, which is to protect the female category”.
Writing in Unherd, Jon Pike described the announcement as ‘hugely significant’.
“It marks the end of the road for a particular set of proposals — that reducing testosterone levels might be a way to make it fair for trans women to compete in female sport… this decision will no doubt pave the way for change within those international federations still pursuing the discredited T-level approach — one which allows for the unfair participation of male-bodied athletes in female sport. It is important more widely, too, because it shows that — in some contexts — sex rather than gender identity is what matters.”
Wyoming Wises Up
Wyoming has become the 19th US state to ban trans-identified male students from competing on female sports teams in its schools.
The legislation, which will come into effect on 1st July, prohibits “Students of the male sex from competing on a team designated for students of the female sex.”
Leaving Them Kids Alone In Missouri
Missouri is set to implement regulations to restrict the medicalisation of gender-confused children.
Attorney General, Andrew Bailey, stated, “I am dedicated to using every legal tool at my disposal to stand in the gap and protect children from being subject to inhumane science experiments”.
Leaving Them Kids Alone In Iowa
Similarly, the state of Iowa has just banned the medicalisation of children with gender related issues. New legislation prevents clinicians from prescribing puberty blockers for or performing sex reassignment surgeries on patients under the age of eighteen.
Furthermore, Iowa law now requires that students in its schools must use the toilet and locker rooms etc which correspond with their biological sex.
Has Starmer Smelled The Coffee?
An article in The Express this week suggested that Keir Starmer may be rowing back on Labour’s gender self-ID policy.
Taking about the SNP’s gender bill omnishambles, Starmer commented that it is important not to force through legislative changes against the will of the public. “What we learned from Scotland is that you don’t make changes that you can’t bring the public along with, which is why in Scotland they should reset the situation… I think there are lessons from Scotland and the primary lesson is that changes which don’t carry public confidence are almost certainly not the right changes.”
He went on, “We have made real and significant progress when it comes to women’s rights and we must not roll back or retreat from any of that, and one of them is safe spaces. That has to be a very important priority as far as I am concerned.”
Has Sir Keir finally remembered what women are? And that we have the vote now?
Sisters Doing It For Themselves
Despite the efforts of trans activists to derail it, feminist networks in the North West organised a wonderful event involving the screening of the documentary, Adult Human Female, and a brilliant panel of speakers.
On which subject, there will be a screening of Adult Human Female hosted by the Oxford Feminist Union in April. Tickets available here.
That photo of Kellie is already 8conic isn’t it? What a Woman! We really do love you KJK. And things seem to really be looking up in the USA. And Starmer has even woken up to the fact that Women can vote now?! Wow! Still not voting for him. Too little too bloody late Keir.
Excellent, uplifting post, JL.
