Just a handful of the good news stories from the gender beat this week. Enjoy!
Barnes Storming
Hannah Barnes’ book, ‘Time to Think’, which details the scandal of the Tavistock gender clinic, has been shortlisted for the 2023 Baillie Gifford Prize, the UK's leading annual prize for non-fiction.
Huge congratulations and best of luck, Hannah!
Real Women, With Love XX
10th October (XX in Roman numerals) was Real Women Day over in the US. Women were encouraged to raise their voices in defence of their sex-based rights.
Congresswoman Lisa McClain, who represents Michigan’s 9th District in the US House of Representatives, threw her political weight behind the event by introducing a bill to declare the date Real Women’s Day.
Fuck Around, Find Out
A pair of trans activists who tried to disrupt Riley Gaines’ appearance at Penn State University got themselves arrested with their puerile behaviour.
White On Cue
Kudos to Tess White MSP for defending free speech and gender critical voices.
After UCU Edinburgh tried to have the launch of a gender critical publication cancelled, White wrote to the university Provost and Principal, amongst others, insisting that the event go ahead. (Which it did.)
Labour Of Love
Labour Women’s Declaration organised two wonderful fringe events to coincide with the Labour Party conference in Liverpool this week.
They were packed to the rafters and featured some brilliant speakers.
The fabulous Rosie Duffield MP was in attendance. As she so rightly says, Labour cannot keep ignoring women’s voices.
The Reviews Are In!
Our Graham’s book, Tough Crowd, has (of course!) been garnering brilliant reviews.
Greg Jameson in Entertainment Focus: “Linehan’s is a story that calls out to be heard… ‘Tough Crowd’ is a beautifully written memoir that is full of good humour and grace… An urgent call to arms that we must push back against humourless activists who mistake perpetual offence and outrage for moral virtue.”
Stefanie Hutson for BritishTV.com: “He's chosen to speak out on a highly controversial, highly emotional subject where those who express any concerns are often attacked. Tough Crowd is sure to be the most controversial British TV memoir of the decade.”
Ben Sixsmith in The Critic: “Tough Crowd, the memoirs of this much-loved humourist cum controversial gender-critical feminist, contains a lot of fire and brimstone, but it is very entertaining”.
Nick Tyrone in Spiked Online: “This is a great book, full stop. It is well written, funny and endearing. In fact, it is one of the most entertaining new books I’ve read in a long time, in any genre.”
Matt Osborne in The Distance Mag: “This is a funny book… Linehan is engaging and funny as he can be while telling the truth about such a serious topic… Like Father Ted, Linehan will never stop scheming to escape his exile, and we laugh because it hurts.”
If you haven’t ordered your copy yet, you can do so direct from the publisher, from Waterstones, from Blackwells, via Amazon and at all discerning outlets. (And readers in Australia and New Zealand can order it from any good book shop.) The audio book is due for release imminently and there’ll be a paperback version soon.
And don’t miss Our Graham being interviewed in The Express this week.
Arise Sir Graham. Vindication will be yours. About bloody time.
Great news! The tide is turning for certain. Loved the shortage of eggs card. The Glinner’s vindication is here. (Not that he needs vindication) take a bow, Glinner. Thanks for the update. 🙏
