Lots of good news stories from the gender beat this week. Enjoy!
Scottish Witches FTW!
The best news of the week has to be For Women Scotland’s formidable victory over the Scottish government’s attempt to redefine the word ‘woman’ to include males.
FWS won their Inner House appeal on the Gender Representation on Public Boards Act. The court found that the Scottish government does not have the power to expand the definition of women to include trans-identified males.
“‘Transgender women’ is not a category for these purposes; it is not a protected characteristic and for the reasons given, the definition of ‘woman’ adopted in the Act impinges on the nature of protected characteristics which is a reserved matter.”
As Joanna Cherry commented, “It turns out that sex matters and concerns about the undermining of the protected characteristic are valid. This will have significant implications”.
Women Of Scotland Won’t Wheesht
More good news regarding the formidable women of Scotland.
The Telegraph reported on the ‘army of women’ fighting the SNP’s planned reforms of the Gender Recognition Act.
Professor Sarah Pedersen authored a report published in the Scottish Affairs journal. It describes ‘a determined grassroots movement’ of women who, whatever their political hues and opinions, are uniting in their opposition to this legislation.
“A new women's cooperative constellation has been established in Scotland around the issue of the Scottish Government's proposed reforms of the Gender Recognition Act. This constellation includes women politicians, researchers, journalists, writers, and activists from all sides of mainstream political opinion.”
The Times ran an article on a similar subject and reported on the 14 separate women’s groups in Scotland uniting to defend single sex spaces.
The new partnership, Single Sex Providers Network, is led by campaign group Frontline Feminists Scotland and will be ‘a conduit’ for its individual member organisations to make their voices heard.
Frauen Won’t Wheesht
Dinos take Berlin! The women of Germany made their voices heard in protest of male violence and opposition to self-ID legislation.
Stonewall’s Mask Is Slipping
Great article in The Times by Joanna Williams about the EHRC finally starting to resist Stonewall’s influence.
“Until August 2020, the EHRC was led by David Isaac who, in a previous role, ran Stonewall… It is only now that the EHRC is raising valid concerns that critics are labelling it as political.”
Bot On The Landscape
Having been inundated with letters from actual people, Private Eye had to issue a clarification and an apology over bot-gate.
It’s My Party
Shahrar Ali is suing the Green Party after he was sacked from his role as the spokesman for policing and domestic safety.
Dr Ali, a former deputy leader, is suing the party, alleging discrimination of his gender-critical beliefs under the 2010 Equality Act. The Telegraph reports this ‘could be a landmark case’.
Date For Your Diary
Jenni Swayne faces her bail hearing in Gwent on Thursday and there will be a rally in her support at 1.30pm. Bring a (subversive feminist) book!
What an enjoyable read, many thanks.
Fingers crossed Single Sex Providers Network are going to kick Bishop Sturgeon up the arse.
Well, that cheered me up no end! Some great news there, and lots more to come I’m certain. Once this woo woo insanity reaches the general public…and we’re getting there! Keep up all your efforts everyone.
