Our cup runneth over with good news from the gender beat this week. Enjoy!
Legal News
Following the Miller v College of Policing decision, Wiltshire Police are deleting the ‘non-crime hate incidents’ from Sarah Philimore’s record.
Women Won’t Wheesht Across The Pond
A new lesbian-only organisation, Lesbians United, has been launched in the USA.
“Heterosexuals have appropriated our culture, our funding, and our spaces; branded lesbians as “trans” or “queer”; and demanded that we accept men into our beds. Lesbians United is here to take our community back. We’re here. Not queer. Get used to it.”
Fraser Gets It
Great article by Murdo Fraser, Scottish Conservative MSP for Mid-Scotland and Fife, in The Scotsman about the Scottish government's proposed self-ID legislation.
“If the most recent intervention by the EHRC causes the Scottish government to pause before progressing with this legislation, then it will have done all of us a favour. It will, perhaps, give time for proper, careful evidence-led consideration of these issues, and allow us to debate them in a sensible and grown-up manner. It is the least that Scottish women should expect.”
FPFW Talking Census
Fair Play For Women were in court this week for the judicial review of the Scottish census ‘sex question’ guidance. (Decision to be made at a later date.)
And the case wasn’t short of media attention.
Swimming Upstream
USA Swimming has updated its policy regarding elite trans-identified male swimmers competing in women’s events.
A three-person medical panel will have to determine whether ‘prior physical development of the athlete as a male’ gives competitors an advantage and there will be testosterone tests for 36 months prior to competitions.
It’s far from ideal but it does seem like a step in the right direction.
While we’re on the subject, bravo to the 16 members of the UPenn women’s swimming team who wrote to school and Ivy League officials, protesting Lia Thomas’ inclusion and requesting adherence to the new USA Swimming regulations.
“Lia holds an unfair advantage over competition in the women’s category, as evidenced by her rankings that have bounced from #462 as a male to #1 as a female. If she were to be eligible to compete against us, she could now break Penn, Ivy, and NCAA Women’s Swimming records; feats she could never have done as a male athlete.”
A Sporting Chance
South Dakota has just passed legislation preventing trans-identified males from playing on female teams in school sports leagues. It is the 10th state to do so.
Women Won’t Wheesht In Sport
The first International Conference in Defence of Women’s Sports Categories is to be held in Madrid later this month.
“FAIR PLAY FOR SPORTSWOMEN aims to shine a light on what is happening in other countries, to learn about the legal actions taken before courts of justice in defence of women's sex-based categories and to warn those in charge of the different Spanish ministries about the practical and legal implications of these laws.”
Conference speakers will include, amongst others, the incomparable Coach Linda Blade and Terf Island’s very own Dr Emma Hilton.
Vive La Résistance
Great article from Colin Wright in the Wall Street Journal about how to resist pronouns. It’s well worth a read.
Genspect Success
Formed last year and with psychotherapist and writer, Stella O’Malley at the helm, Genspect is an organisation made up of parents and professionals which provides a voice for the families of gender-questioning children.
Here is a run-down of all it has achieved since its inception.
“We’ve done all of that in 231 days. And the best is yet to come!”
Thanks very much.
I n̶i̶c̶k̶e̶d̶ liberated a Banksy image for this: https://ibb.co/mvGkDHB
I've been in touch with Murdo's office about the capture of social work and children's services in Scotland. I'm glad someone is listening and has actually bothered to do the research. I never thought I'd be cheering on a Tory but I never thought I'd be fangirling the House of Lords either...- needs must...
