Here’s a handful of the good news stories from the gender beat this week. Enjoy!
Sex Matters In Nebraska
In Nebraska, proposed legislation, Legislative Bill 575, would divide school bathrooms, locker rooms and sports teams by biological sex not ‘gender identity’.
Eighteen US states have now passed laws restricting school sports teams on the basis of sex with more being considered this year.
Sex Matters In Tennessee
In another story from the US, the Tennessee Senate has just passed Senator Jack Johnson’s bill which could ban the medicalisation of dysphoric children.
Senate Bill 1 would prohibit children with gender issues being treated with puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones or surgery. This week the bill moved swiftly through committees in both General Assembly chambers and was passed by the Tennessee Senate. It now moves on to the House and could soon become law.
For Your Listening Pleasure
JK Rowling has recorded a podcast in conversation with American political activist and writer, Megan Phelps-Roper (formerly a spokesperson for the Westboro Baptist Church who later became one of its fiercest critics).
The Witch Trials of JK Rowling is available now on all the usual podcast platforms.
‘Sorry’ Seems To Be The Hardest Word
And speaking of JK Rowling, I’m sure we all enjoyed Joseph James ‘JJ’ Wells making his legally required public apology this week.
He learned the hard way that likening people to Nazis doesn’t put you on the right side of history. Or the law.
The Best Of Times
Huge respect to the editorial team at The New York Times for refusing to buckle under to the demands of the gender stasi.
Last week trans activists sent open letters to The New York Times, railing against the paper’s coverage of gender ideology. The NYT responded with a crystal clear message that it will not be silenced or kowtow to bullies.
Firstly, Executive Editor, Joe Kahn, wrote an open memo to NYT staff stating that “Our coverage of transgender issues, including the specific pieces singled out for attack, is important, deeply reported, and sensitively written”.
He went on to say that the paper, “Will not tolerate participation by Times journalists in protests organized by advocacy groups or attacks on colleagues”.
The NYT then consolidated its position by publishing an op-ed by Pamela Paul supporting JK Rowling and condemning those who claim she is a ‘transphobe’.
“She's written books where from the very first page, bullying and authoritarian behavior is held to be one of the worst of human ills… Those who accuse Rowling of punching down against her critics ignore the fact that she is sticking up for those who have silenced themselves to avoid the job loss, public vilification and threats to physical safety that other critics of recent gender orthodoxies have suffered.”
The Must-Watch Documentary
‘Affirmation Generation’ is a ground-breaking feature-length documentary that, “Reveals the push to medicalize non-conforming youth, exposes the damage already done, and warns of an epidemic of medical malpractice to come”. (UPDATE: Vimeo banned it)
Produced in Los Angeles by a group of ‘lifelong West Coast Liberal Democrats’, the film features testimony from clinicians, psychologists, and detransitioners and will be a powerful tool in the fight against gender ideology. Watch and share!
You’ll Have Had Your Tea?
Of course, the big news of the week is that Scotland’s ‘feminist to my fingertips’ First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, handed in her notice.
Apparently, ignoring, silencing, and sneering at 50% of the electorate while forcing through unpopular and ill-advised legislation isn’t a great political career move.
According to The Telegraph, the SNP is now preparing to ‘rip up her gender bill’.
A party source told the paper, “We need to get back on track by pursuing things that matter to the people of Scotland, not pushing stuff that the public is vehemently opposed to. I expect the gender reforms to be parked somewhere as quickly as possible. Any sensible new leader will want to get that off the front pages, and quickly.”
It’s also wonderful news that Ash Regan, who resigned her ministerial post rather than vote for the gender bill, is standing as SNP leader.
And she has vowed to drop the bill if successful.
thank you for this. once more your positive news gives me hope when things here are so far gone. i wonder if there will ever be positive news from new zealand?
You know who really believes a man can become a woman? A very small child if you tell them so. A severely mentally-challenged person. A severely mentally-disturbed person. That’s it.
