Over the weekend two political parties on either side of the world demonstrated their contempt for women’s rights, safety, and voices. Neither deserves the title “Liberal”.
Firstly, in Australia, a female politician has been threatened with expulsion from her own party for speaking at a pro-women event.
Former teacher and mother of four, Moira Deeming, is a member of Australia’s Liberal Party and has represented the Western Metropolitan Region in the Victorian Upper House since November 2022. She campaigns for women’s sex-based rights and child safeguarding, as her maiden speech made clear.
On Saturday 18th March she attended the Let Women Speak event, organised by Kellie-Jay Keen and Standing For Women, outside Parliament House in Melbourne.
Deeming spoke at the meeting, reading out a letter from a Muslim migrant woman which asks the government to protect women’s rights.
“She knew that in Australia human rights were advocated for strongly and that she would have protection in Australia… Now she is devastated to find out that she has less rights in Australia then she does back home… She is seeking that the government will do their job and stand up for the rights she was promised when she came to Australia.”
Of course, the usual militant trans activists besieged the event, determined to cause maximum disruption and prevent women from exercising their legal right to free speech. The threat of violence was so great that the event required a heavy police presence - involving armed and mounted officers - as well as SFW’s own security and marshals, to defend attendees from an aggressive mob of protestors.
It is reported by those in attendance that a woman, a young lesbian, was so ferociously physically assaulted by trans activists that she lost consciousness and had to be hospitalised.
There were also reports that the trans activists physically assaulted police horses.
Once underway, the event was hijacked by around twenty men wearing black shorts, t-shirts, and masks, all seemingly members of neo-Nazi organisation, the National Socialist Network.
Unimpeded by police, they marched to the steps of the Parliament building, raising their arms in a Nazi salute.
Some witnesses in attendance have suggested that this crashing of the event by neo-Nazis was possibly enabled by police officers.
Moira Deeming described how the police had allowed the masked far-right gatecrashers to walk straight into the buffer zone where women were speaking.
According to reports, one of the National Socialists who hijacked the rally is Nathan Bull, the son of a serving Victorian police officer who has previously failed to declare that a family member is involved in neo-Nazi activities.
Six months ago, the officer concerned posted a message to his son on social media, stating that he had been ‘hanging’ with him and that he is ‘proud’ of what he’s doing. He posted a photograph of his son wearing a t-shirt depicting a black sun, a neo-Nazi symbol, and a Reichsadler, the heraldic eagle which appeared on the coat of arms of Nazi Germany.
Political commentator, Rukshan Fernando, was filming at the Standing For Women event and live streamed much of it. He reported, “Having been able to observe what happened firsthand it was obvious that both groups agitating had no respect for the women's rights rally, and were mostly there for their own ideological battle and promotion”.
In a video he posted on social media, Fernando made clear that nobody involved in the Standing For Women event had any links whatsoever with the neo-Nazi group that hijacked it. “I can tell you straight out that the women who were involved in that rally were not linked in any way whatsoever to those far right neo-Nazis.”
The Australian Jewish Association issued a statement, acknowledging that the women’s event had no association with the neo-Nazis. It said that the far-right protestors ‘invaded’ the Standing For Women rally and “Saw an opportunity to hijack the event for their own publicity”.
Speaking in The New Zealand Herald, Kellie-Jay Keen also made quite clear that the far-right gatecrashers had nothing to do with Standing For Women. “They’re absolutely not associated with me whatsoever. I absolutely abhor anything to do with Nazis. It’s preposterous they even exist in 2023.”
That notwithstanding, the Australian media and even some MPs have been determined to falsely associate Standing For Women and its event in Melbourne with the Neo-Nazis who crashed the party.
One such politician is Victorian Liberal Leader, John Pesutto. He has taken steps to remove Moira Deeming from the Liberal party due to her attendance at the event. On Sunday night Pesutto released a statement announcing that he’d met with Deeming and informed her he would move a motion to expel her from the party.
He said her position was ‘untenable’ and erroneously accused her of “Promoting and participating in a rally with speakers and other organisers who themselves have been publicly associated with far rightwing extremist groups including neo-Nazi activists”.
This of course, is nonsensical. As Edie Wyatt writing in The Spectator points out, “Moira Deeming is also a Māori woman and was reading out a letter from a Muslim migrant at the rally, she seems an unlikely person to be targeted as a white supremacist by her own party”. But one of the first rules of misogyny, of course, is that women are always responsible for the evils men do.
Moira Deeming released a statement to say that neither she nor the organisers of the Let Women Speak event had done anything wrong and that she had been ‘condemned unjustly’ by a ‘select few members of the Liberal leadership team’.
There will be a vote in the Liberal Party to determine whether Deeming can remain in the Parliamentary Party or whether she will be expelled from it.
At a press conference on Monday morning, Pesutto said that expelling Deeming was a ‘necessary step’ to ensure the Liberal party was ‘ready to govern’ come the 2026 state election. Must clean the house of those uppity women who won’t do what they’re told before election time, eh, John?
Meanwhile, in the UK, the Liberal Democrat Party proved that it, too, will not let women speak in defence of their rights.
This is hardly surprising. Ed Davey, the leader of the Liberal Democrats, has made clear that he is so contemptuous of women’s rights, privacy and safety, he’s happy for intact males to have full access to all of women’s spaces.
In September 2021, Davey appeared on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme. The programme featured a report on a police watchdog directive about tackling violence against women.
HM Inspector of Constabulary described the ‘epidemic of violence’ against women and girls’ and condemned the failings of police forces to prioritise and deal with it.According to official statistics, in England and Wales in the year to March 2020 an estimated 1.6 million women were victims of domestic abuse, 618,000 women were victims of sexual assault and 892,000 women were victims of stalking.
Even in the wake of this report and the statistics demonstrating the epidemic of violence against women and girls, Davey denied the need for female only areas and insisted that trans-identified males should have full access to all of women’s spaces. Programme host, Justin Webb, asked Davey if there should be any spaces in society to which trans-identified biological males should not have access. Davey replied, “No”.
You may remember, of course, that Ferring Pharmaceuticals is a ‘long-standing’ supporter of the Liberal Democrats and has donated over £1.4 million to the party. Ferring Pharmaceuticals manufactures the puberty blocker Triptolerin.
At the Lib Dem Spring conference in York over the weekend, a debate on women’s representation on internal committees was prevented from being heard.
Apparently, party leader, Ed Davey, made a special appearance in the hall specifically to vote against the debate.
When women protested this suppression of their voices on social media, Councillor Sean Macleod, Diversity Officer and Mental Health Champion for the party in Lewes, responded to them.
When the Chair of Liberal Voice for Women, Zoe Hollowhood, addressed the conference, trying to discuss the equitable representation of women on internal committees and the fairness of quotas, she was jeered at and heckled by the men in the audience.
On the final day of the conference, party publication, Lib Dem Voice, produced an article called It’s Time for Gender Critical People to Leave. This makes perfectly clear that those who oppose gender ideology will not only not be heard within the party, they’ll be forced out.
It described those refusing to embrace the cult of gender as ‘bigots’ and an ‘illiberal minority’ and called the defining of women as a biological sex class ‘transphobic nonsense’. The message to women in the party wishing to discuss their sex-based rights is spelled out; “There is no place for you here. It’s time to leave”.
Two parties in two countries over one weekend have demonstrated very clearly that they will not permit women a voice.
They’ve forgotten that we’re allowed the vote now.
I’ve always maintained trans ideology is the biggest misogynistic movement around today. Non-trans men are jumping on the anti-women bandwagon as well as trans-id men. Trans ideology is supposedly a leftie liberal movement but these people are right at home with their fascist brothers.
Ed Davey identifies as a liberal, but he’s actually an authoritarian nobhead
