There has been some dispiriting news from Scotland recently, with the Hate Crimes legislation affording more protection to men in drag than actual women and the Gender Representation on Public Boards Act redefining the word ‘woman’ to mean anyone who changes their name on the gas bill.
But on Tuesday our sisters in Scotland did a brilliant job of expressing their rage and resistance with this wonderful show of strength.
This installation of women’s shoes was set up outside Holyrood, the Scottish parliament, as a stark warning to all political parties that women will be walking away from those who fail to protect their sex-based rights.
Candidates in the forthcoming Scottish Parliament election on 6th May are being asked to sign the Manifesto for Women’s Rights.
Those politicians not willing to make a commitment to protecting women’s rights and spaces will know what to expect.
Not just in Edinburgh, but all over the country, women demonstrated their defiance and strength of feeling.
And it was glorious!
"If they don’t respect my sex, how can they expect my X?”
Amen to that sisters. Love, strength and solidarity to you all.
Women will vote with their feet.
What a brilliant way to make a clear statement and in a calm rational way. No one got angry, no one was shouting in the faces of others with a megaphone. Well done Scottish women.
Wow I love this Scottish women campaign, how brilliant, its so simple and so absolutely pertinent. Bloody well done!
