You might be wondering why certain odd things have all materialised at the same time; among them, the sudden problematising of the word ‘woman’, males in women’s spaces and sports, Drag Queen Story Time and The Dice Game, people in heterosexual relationships who think they’re LGBT, the concept of ‘trans children’ and so on. What connects all these disparate, offensive, regressive, sexist and homophobic ideas?
The answer is ‘Queer Theory’, which has in recent years escaped academia like something grown in a lab and insinuated itself into public life at almost every level.
I spoke to Heather Brunskell Evans about Queer Theory, where it’s good, where it’s extremely bad, and what she thinks of the classic Derrick Jensen video ‘Queer Theory Jeopardy’.
(HUGE thanks to Arty Morty for editing this one down to the bone).
Fascinating. Heather BE is amazing to listen to... sets it all out so clearly for those is us who are not of that intellectual world. Thanks for posting.
Very Very interesting podcast / video indeed. Quite a perspective to consider, when it comes to how Queer theory originated, took its root and became the new normal. Now this sounds like the real "Mess we are in ". Progressive Queer theory .
