Don't despair. One good bit of news is this from Nutmeg: "Some of the analysis is quite positive - it says doctors can no longer hide behind judges and will be sued if things go wrong". As we know, these procedures tend to go wrong from the get-go, so doctors may be reluctant to put themselves at risk.

Also, it's going to the Supreme Court. it's too important not to.

I am an autistic woman, diagnosed at the age of 36. During the 90s, gender non-conforming girls like me were labelled tomboys and left to get on with it. Now they butcher them and pump them full of hormones, it's terrifying.

So the Bell appeal turned out as expected. However, now the Tavistock is under heavy scrutiny and their practices exposed by the Appleby hearing, there will be no referrals until the NHS guidance is updated. That depends on the Cass Review…

and the Review will first need to find some evidence of efficacy and safety of puberty blockers - NICE is clear there is none.

This is very far from being a win for the TRA lobby.

Children must not be mutilated on our watch. #IStandWithKeiraBell

We live in a corrupt nation, and some of our most vulnerable children are suffering for it. Well done Keira. Surely this must end, eventually - probably as more detransitioners come forward with their own ordeals. Today I feel sick at this news. But it's not the end.

According to uk.gov.con, "many surgeons are reluctant" to perform a vasectomy on under 30s "in case your circumstances change and you regret it later".

When I had my pencil de-leaded in early 00s I was told just old enough aged 37!

What needs to happen is for detransitioners (maybe including Keira) to sue doctors and trusts for negligence. The standards of proof are low (balance of probabilities, not beyond reasonable doubt) and the sums of money involved are huge. I would have thought it would be fairly easy to bring a strong case which would be hard to defend - providing a life-changing treatment for which there was minimal evidence to a vulnerable child without adequate psychological exploration. I would expect that some law firms would take such cases on on a contingency basis. Once this starts happening doctors will become very reluctant to be involved in this process. Also, their insurers will be reluctant to provide cover. I honestly do not know why this is not happening already.

Honestly, I am not coping well with this devastating news. I know it can go to the Supreme Court but it hurts so much. Not enough people are listening to detransitioners and the trans army has all the financial backing.

I'm tired of crazed trans rights extremists gloating and laughing like pastel coloured hyenas. Seriously, how do we cope with such a setback? 😭

Are there any legal eagles here? Could Keira Bell appeal to the Supreme Court? I think the crowing coming from the other side might be a tad premature....

What went wrong with the legal arguments? I'm shocked. Very sad.

John T Scopes was found guilty of teaching evolution, but his trial served the purpose of ending the hold religious ideology had on public schools in that aspect.

oh my god... so deeply evil and horrifying I can't believe it... I want to scream from the rooftops 'heads will roll!!' in the coming decades as these poor mutilated children realise what they have done.. Dark dark times. How do these people sleep at night? How messed up they truly are.

Does this ruling mean that the question marks surrounding Tavistock practices have vanished and they can dole out puberty blockers willy nilly again?

The judges must be living in a parallel universe to the rest of us. I’m so saddened by this judgement.

Disappointing

I hope these kids sue the shit out of these doctors from now until the end of time.

And let's hope the Supreme Court has more sense.
