I did a complaint recently to the Independent Press Standards Organisation, their response included the following:

"....IPSO cannot take complaints about articles in general. We can only take complaints about specific articles from publications we regulate, which have been published in the last four months, or a year if they are online and the delay does not hinder IPSO's ability to investigate.

Therefore please can you provide:

1. The article you wish to complain about.

2. How you know that the article is inaccurate (ie do you have a personal awareness of the people involved?)

3. In order to make your complaint as strong as possible, can you explain how it is significantly inaccurate to refer to men who identify as women as women in the article?"

Obviously designed to deter me, and point 3 caused me to blow a gasket. So I'm tagging the tossers in every relevant press report post on Twitter - @ipsonews . I also did a little bit of research online, guess where they get their guidance from for reporting on matters Trans? YES! Stonewall ("Acceptance Without Question")!

From one of my subsequent enquiries, they responded to say they are not Stonewall Champions "at this time".

I wrote to them about this I was appalled to see on the 28th April you reported that a “woman” had exposed “herself” in Haverfordwest. In fact this person is a man, he’s someone who finds a sexual thrill in dressing as a woman, he’s not transgender he’s a bloke in a dress. He’s using the fear that everyone seems to be suffering from that we daren’t call out the reality of it. It’s dangerous and hurts women, it will also skew crime statistics and hurt women’s services. I would really appreciate WT exploring this issue further and recognise that this man is absolutely taking the mick out of everyone. Now if commits a more serious crime and ends up in prison he could end up with vulnerable women, as in Ireland, and be a sexual predator amongst the most vulnerable. Please be good reporters and dig into this more. Ps you only have to check him out on Twitter to see this.

Their response

Thank you for your message... however, while the case is sub-judice then we are legally obliged to report the information provided on the court list - which clearly states the defendant's gender is female. We also have to respect how individuals self-identify. I agree that it is a subject that, in its wider context, could do to be examined, although I do not have the resources currently to do so; but will definitely consider it in future if time/staff allow.

And my grumpy response to that

To be honest the only thing you should respect is the truth. This is someone with autogynephilia and who is clearly a sexual predator who is making the most of people’s fear of mistreading and offending someone, but he didn’t care about anyone’s feelings but his own when he exposed himself.

I believe that there is a way to separate and clarify the status of transgender people. Genuine trans people, those who are not paedophiles, should be allowed to identify in any way they wish, but those who commit acts which place them on the sex offenders register should have their right to self identify taken from them. That way, genuine trans people will be free of the stigma that paedophiles and rapist put upon them, and the statistics for sex crime will not be skewed by false data
