Earlier in the week, I suggested that Stonewall had hidden their list of ‘diversity champions’ from public view because someone big had dropped off the list. Well, you don’t get much bigger than The Equality and Human Rights Commission!
Huge congratulations to Maya Forstater and Sex Matters.
Adding to their woes, Mathew Parris broke ranks yesterday in The Times, Mary Harrington savaged them in The Mail and The Essex University story continues to broil. Much unwelcome scrutiny of an organisation that once tried to stifle free speech with the absurd, insulting diktat “No debate”.
True to form, Stonewall responded it to it all by tweeting like a teenager in ‘Mean Girls’.
This reply was particularly delicious for me.
As Simon Edge put it “If the EHRC have decided they cannot be Stonewall Diversity champions, doesn't it raise the question of whether any organisation - particularly publicly funded bodies and government departments - should be? Every organisation that takes its orders from Stonewall will ultimately suffer reputational damage, because those orders are ridiculous. Police Sccotland is a Diversity Champion. It’s now being dubbed - with justification - the McStasi”.
Lesbian Ani Bee said “Shine a light on your own homophobia. This is the consequence of gays and lesbians being told not to call ourselves homosexual, not to mention same-sex attraction and called genitally obsessed bigots by transitioning heterosexuals and their Queer allies. This is your mess. Own it.”
Debbie Hayton, who is trans, replied directly to their Mean Girls tweet with this “It all went wrong for transsexual people when you showed up in 2014. We had what we needed including Equality Act & health care. You did nothing to help us secure those rights. Nothing. You then appropriated *our* rights in *your* ludicrous campaign to queer society. Go away!”
We’ll be doing a special Mess We’re In today at 4pm to talk about the situation! Please join us!
This is glorious. I've just been taking bets with a friend about who's left Stonewall. Okay, I lost, but I don't care....
Some moments are Just Right and everything aligns. This might be one of those moments for people to begin contacting that Giant List of Stonewall champions and asking why they haven't cut ties yet.

And of course Germany just decided against self ID this week, and France, Spain, and Sweden have all also just made significant decisions...
The snowball has begun to roll downhill. Time to turn it into an avalanche.
