The more you play along, the harder it is to distance yourself from the fallout later

"Gaiman pandering to this nonsense is befuddling. I’ve met him a few times and nothing about him made me think he would fall into step with narcissists who think they can control how others refer to them. Pronoun wankers, as I like to call them. But I thought something was amiss when he didn’t defend JK Rowling from the dreadful, misogynistic abuse she faced merely because she was brave enough to stand up for women’s sex-based rights".
The problem for Neil Gaiman as I see it is that he has to nod along with genderwoo or he will lose the majority of his fan base/ readership. If he so much as acknowledges the other side of the argument they will turn on him- he’s seen what happened to JK Rowling. If I remember correctly he made some cursory comment about disagreeing with her but that wasn’t good enough for his followers who attempted to get him to denounce her more by claiming that she had plagiarised The Books of Magic when creating Harry Potter. It was ridiculous but relentless. I guess it’s easier for him to nod along with it all.
for comic fans who can no longer look Death in the face (for there is so much more to comics than the sandman series / alan moore / 2000AD -inc tank girl), then search out the v feminist work of una. first there was 'becoming unbecoming' (myriad editions 2015) and now 'eve' (virago 2021) https://thingsbyuna.com/portfolio/becomingunbecoming/
The Sandman's Gender Representation Was Ahead Of Its Time
"Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman is considered one of the greatest comics ever written, but one aspect of the series that deserves more attention is the character Wanda, one of the first positive representations of a transgender person in comics"
"As the funeral began, Wanda’s family would continue to lament the life Wanda lived, even going as far as using Wanda’s deadname on her tombstone and banning Barbie from the wake. Disgusted by the family’s disapproval, Barbie returned to the tombstone to say goodbye to her friend, crossing out her birthname and writing “Wanda” underneath in her favorite lipstick color."
Oh Lord why do people read such depth and meaning in such inconsequential writings. Its like saying Father Ted was a symbolical representation of mans search for meaning!
The reaction to this has been interesting. Funny how JKR is a horrible semite (etc etc ad nauseam) because some people have decided that goblins are meant to represent Jewish people.
Yet Neil Gaiman does this and all of a sudden authors write fiction you, and it doesn't mean anything about who they are!
The only reason Gaiman hasn't already endured years of rape threats and bomb threats over this is because of his, y'know, male nasty thing.
AH ha...so dealings with NG.
Spare us the pronouns, Sandman

His (ex) missus is über woke, If I remember correctly.

Wow. That is straight up TERF talk Neil! Get out the torches and the pitchforks? No? Hm. This needs to be circulated more methinks.

Hackneyed I know but pretentious critics!

Hmmm... what could be the difference?
You also don't see Neil Gaiman talking about Scientology, either. It's hard to leave a cult once you're in so deep.
Has he got a new book coming out or summat?
Huzzah!
Should I know who Neil Gaiman is? 😕
Maybe therein lies the answer. He's jumped on the gender train for a career pick-me-up 🤔
I really do not understand what he is saying
Could it be because they have to profess to be right-on to get work at these uber-woke Silicon Valley and Hollywood industries?
You can do that, sure, but you will forever lose respect for being spineless.
I prefer people who stand up for themselves. So does history.
Screw short term monetary gain.
I'm now totally lost
The best bit is the head that's telling Wanda that he's not a woman has been magically compelled to 'speak the truth, holding nothing back'!
