Due to the limitations of the season (ie my being permanently cheese-drunk and having no idea what day it is) this week’s GNS is far from exhaustive. Here’s just a handful of good news stories with which to usher in the new year.
Edinburgh Witches Won’t Wheesht
Some wonderful feminist activists expressed their support for JK Rowling with a wee tour of Edinburgh, documented in this excellent thread by @Obsolesence.
More Swimming Against The Tide
American sporting types continue to speak out about the appalling unfairness of trans-identified male swimmer, Lia Thomas, competing against females.
Thomas’ teammates on the UPenn women’s swimming squad considered boycotting their final home meet of the season in protest at his inclusion.
A source close to the team of 41 women told the Daily Mail, “There is a feeling among some of the girls that they should make some sort of statement, seize the opportunity while they have a spotlight on them to make their feelings about the issue known”.
Olympian, Erika Brown, who competed on Team USA in Tokyo, expressed her objections on social media. “We cannot allow transgender females to compete against biological women… It’s time to start standing up for women’s sports, before we (lose) what so many before us have fought for. I hope that this can help inspire others to speak up”.
Madison Kenyon, a track and field athlete at Idaho State University, has called on more athletes to fight for fairness in women’s sports. "What we need is for people to speak up and take a public stance on this. The fact that biological males are still beating females in their own sport is insane, and the only [way] it's gonna stop is if we speak up."
MacAskill Kens
Kenny MacAskill, former SNP Justice Secretary and deputy leader of the Alba Party, has demanded that Police Scotland abandon plan to record rapists and rape suspects as female if that’s how they ‘identify’.
In a letter to the SPA chair he wrote, “It is hugely controversial and threatening to women’s rights. The Scottish Police Authority has a clear duty to act in the wider public interest not simply accept any dogma in fashion with the Scottish Government.”
Bravissimo!
Italy’s most-read newspaper, Corriere Della Sera, has named JK Rowling and Professor Kathleen Stock among “The Women of 2021”.
Oh, Mate
Though he spends most of his time spewing vitriol on Twitter, India ‘Cervix’ Willoughby can be unwittingly hilarious. This lack of self-awareness is a classic.
He’s also getting pretty bloody desperate if his adherence to this tinfoil hat worthy theory is anything to go by. (Rad fems are ex-nuns who hate women having sex, eh? Let that penetrate...)
And then there’s the multiple attacks on Debbie Hayton, which are extraordinarily venomous and insane.
Schools Out
The leading group of girls’ schools will no longer be accepting trans-identified males as pupils.
The Girls' Day School Trust, which represents 23 private schools and two academies, updated its policy on gender identity. In a new admissions section, the GDST states that its schools will not accept applications from male pupils, however they ‘identify’.
I really hope those female swimmers stage a protest. I'd love to see them line up with him and then not dive in. I think the time may be right for this - safer.
Did...Indy just call someone out...for...pretending?!?
